You wandered around the castle, finally finding the merchant's small shop.
You spotted a small cot in the corner and walked towards it.
You fell onto it, letting out a sigh since your legs hurt.
"Ah, there's my favorite patron! Are ya buyin anything today?" The merchant asked, taking a notice of you.
No reply.
He hobbled over to the side of the counter parallel to you.
You were staring at the wall and quietly sobbing.
It was your mother's birthday today, but she had died a decade ago due to illness.
"I'm just r-resting, this cot is super comfy by the way!" You croaked, trying not to embarrass yourself.
"Oh ok, I'll be right here if you feel like buyin anything." He said, taking notice of your breathing growing faster.
Something was definitely off.
He hobbled over to the cot and set up a stool.
"I didn't want to intrude, but you don't act like this usually (Name)" He said, placing a hand on your back.
You turned over, revealing your puffy red eyes.
"Did that short guy yell at you again? He asked, pausing to let you speak
"No, he didn't yell at me." You said.
"What did happen then?" He asked with concern in his voice.
"It's my mother's birthday today. But she's 6 feet in the ground, rotting." You sniffled, tears threatening to burst out.
"Oh (Name), I'm sorry to hear that, is there something I can do to make you happier?" He quietly asked, placing a hand a hand on your shoulder.
That's what sent you over the edge.
You burst out crying, hugging the merchant for dear life.
He quietly sat there, holding you until you fell asleep.
He placed you back on the cot and hobbled back over to his shop.
He grabbed some roses out of a small container and placed them in a vase.
Then, he wrote a note saying they were on the house and to come back soon before leaving.
