I slide down the last part of the snowy hill, my mind thinking of ways to make that safer.

Every time we make our way into the town we slip down and slip when coming back up. I was okay, I could just slide down, ground my feet down and keep my balance but Bethany... well she always -

"Eeeek!"

Slipped. Every damn time. I turn and see her sat on her bum, puffy coat surrounding her as she frowns. She reassures whoever she is on the phone with that she is okay as I hold out a hand. Grasping her smaller hand in mine I carefully pull her up so she doesn't lose her footing again.

"I'm okay mom. Damn snow makes me fall every time." She grumbles brushing down her coat.

Unable to help it my lips twitch and her eyes snap to me. She glares, raises a finger and says, "It's not funny, " before continuing forward ahead of me. I chuckle shaking my head and let her lead the way.

I keep a safe distance so she can have some privacy while on the phone but don't stray too far behind so I can call out, "Left. Bethany! Left. " When she is about to miss the turning. I have never known anyone so bad at directions.

The walk is cooling as I take off my hat and gloves, letting the air soothe my hot skin. Flashes blind my eye sight for a moment as I begin to get too hot. Inhaling deeply I ignore the flashbacks, blocking them out to call out to Bethany again so she can turn down the correct alleyway.

The memories swarm behind my eye, waiting play out my worst nightmare and I wonder why this is happening now. I haven't had flashbacks for a long time, I'm able to block them out and keep them locked away but for some reason today it's not working.

Maybe it's because Bethany was so vulnerable with me yesterday. Trusting me enough to guide her, being her ears in one of the busiest situations was a privilege I never knew I could be granted.

"Quinn?"

I blink and see her in front of me. Her hands are in her pockets and I come to the conclusion that she has finished with her phone call. Eyes flickering she looks worried and I wonder if she caught on to what's happening.

"I - Do you think someone could find out where we are?"

My mind blanks. "What?"

"I - Don't worry. It's nothing." She smiles but it's tight, uneasy. She goes to turn away and continue down the alleyway but I stop her before she can. With a hand holding her arm I turn her to face me and simple raise an eyebrow.
