"Show me."

Bethany swallows barely passing me a glance before passing over what she has been working on for the last two days. I haven't seen her except for when she ventures out of her room for food during the day, she seemed busy and focused so I didn't disturb her.

I watch as the sponsor looks over her work and I wait impatiently knowing how hard she has tried. Even though she didn't need or want my opinion or knowledge, every time she was in the kitchen for something to eat she would come prepared with a new round of questions for me.

It was amusing to watch her write down my answers. I can't help but study her while we wait, her hair is up today in a ponytail, soft stands falling out and around her flushed face from the cold. Her fingers are tipped red as she taps them nervously on the table, her leg bouncing underneath.

Before I can think it through my hand finds its way to her thigh, squeezing gently to reassure her. It takes everything inside me not to laugh as she jumps, her eyes moving towards me in alarm. The feeling of her cold hand covers mine and then she squeezes back.

I can't believe she kissed me.

After everything she had said, how she tried to convince us both that we were over, that there was nothing there for us, she kissed me. When she handed me that fucking plane ticket, her ticket home to New York I was ready to let her go.

She was too good for me. Way too fucking good, she deserves better, she deserves the world.

But no one can love her like I do. No one can adore her, cherish her like I can. No one would give her the world if she asked for it, but I would spend my life trying. No one understands her like I do. She was mine in every sense of the word.

I wasn't letting her go.

Not without a fight.

I had lost everything to the flames so who would've thought I would be fighting my way towards them again?

"I've made my decision." He announces.

Bethany as impatient as always asks, "And that would be..."

His eyes skim over the paperwork in front of him and then his eyes move to us both. Why is he taking so long to answer her? Does that mean its bad news? I don't know how I would even begin to try and console Bethany if this got rejected. The truth would be that we had tried everything, that we had failed to do what we were sent out here to do.
