Chapter 5
Emma, Nat and Wanda stood in Nat's room all done up for the party. Nat and Wanda helped Emma with her hair and makeup. "Thank you, girls, for helping me with this."
"Any time." Wanda smiled at her, "I'm so glad you're here with us Emma."
Nat fixed her lipstick in the mirror, "Em, you know we're here for you. For everything. Even if you just want to talk. I don't want to push you, but you really should talk to someone about everything you went through. It might help."
"I know sestra. I'm just not there yet. I did have a brief conversation with Bruce about it. No details."
Wanda smiled and tried to lighten the mood, "That's a start. See. Now let's put on our party faces and go have some fun."
They all laughed as they walked down the hallway to the elevator. "Main floor please." Natasha smiled as she looked over at Emma, "You look beautiful."
"Thank you. Both of you. I've never had friends before. I think I like this."
"Get used to it. You're stuck with us now." Wanda smiled at her and gave her a small hug.
The doors opened to the grand ballroom and Emma was shocked to see so many people, "Nat. Who are these people? I thought it was just going to be the avengers."
"Sorry. Don't panic. Um..." They walked into the room holding hands, "There's Bruce, you know him. And Tony's over there. Just ignore the rest of the people. Tony invites them to get donations or more work. He likes to network."
"I don't know what that is. I'll just stick with the people I've met."
Wanda waved to people across the room, "You haven't met these guys yet. They stay at the compound too. You'll see them around." Wanda introduced Emma to Clint, Sam and Rhodey.
"Are you avengers too?" Emma smiled at Sam as she spoke.
Clint laughed, "Sort of but not exactly."
Sam shook his head, "Nope. I just do what they do, slower."
Rhodey jumped in, "We go on missions. We help out."
"Maybe once I get trained, we can go on missions together." Emma smiled at them. Nat waved her over to the bar, "Excuses me boys Nat's calling us."
"You head over to Nat. I'm going to go say hello to a few people." Wanda smiled as she strolled off.
Emma weaved between the people at the party. She kept a smile on her face even though she was freaking out inside. There were a lot of people in the room, and she didn't know most of them. She focused on Nat's face until she reached the bar.
