Winters Torture

Part 21

Emma woke up in haste and threw the covers off her. The blanket landed on Bucky, causing him to wake up confused, "Emma, what are you doing?" he watched her rummage through her things in the dark, "Emma?"

He had an uneasy feeling after she didn't answer him. He slowly got up and walked over to Emma. Hands up, ready for a fight just in case she was in the middle of a nightmare, again. He reached out gently and put a hand on her arm, "Emma. What's going on?"

She whipped her head at him and made eye contact, "They're here, Bucky."

Bucky cocked an eyebrow in confusion, "Emma. Who's here? Are you even awake?"

She stood up straight and got closer to Bucky, "Yes. I'm very awake." She whispered yelled at him, "Alert the rest of the avengers. We're in for a hell of a fight."

"Emma. What are you talking about?" He watched her searching her room, "What are you looking for?"

Just like that, an alarm was set off throughout the building. Lights were flashing throughout the dark room. Bucky threw his clothes on and swung open the door to the hallway. He looked around quickly and then closed the door quietly. Jarvis announced a security breach throughout the building, "The perimeter has been breached. I repeat the perimeter has been breached. Avengers assemble."

Bucky looked around with wide eyes, "How did you know?"

"I heard them. In my head." She hit the side of her head with the palm of her hand a few times.

Bucky grabbed her wrist to get her to stop hitting herself. He squared up to her eye level so she could see his face clearly, "Like they were talking to you?"

"No. They weren't trying to get in my head. I actually heard them. Super hearing. It's been super amplified since I learned how to use my powers with Wanda. I don't know why. This isn't the time." She laced up her boots and attached knives to her vest. She looked back at Bucky, "Go get your gear. You're going to need it."

"Fuck." Bucky quietly opened the door again and headed to his room right next door. Even with his super hearing he still couldn't hear anyone moving in the building. He stepped into his room and suited up for the fight.

Emma's connection with Bucky was so strong, that she could hear his heartbeat from rooms away- floors away. Bucky's connection to Emma was just as strong. He was able to tell where she was at all times. He could feel her coming down the hall toward his room.

"Buck, I can hear them. They're still outside. They haven't breached the building."

"Fuck. Jarvis did you hear all that?"

"Yes, I'll alert the others."

Emma and Bucky headed back out into the hallway. The halls were dark and empty. They found their way through the darkness to the stairwell door.

"Emma, please don't leave me." His eyes begged her with worry.

"I'm not going anywhere, cupcake." She kissed him quickly and kicked the door open ready for a fight. They headed to the roof together and encountered Hydra special forces scaling the high-rise and hoping onto the roof.

"Jarvis send us some help."

"Mr. Stark and the rest of the avengers are holding off the men on the first floor. They are trying to breach the doors. You two are on your own."

Bucky looked over at Emma, "We do this together."

The sinister grin on her face turned Bucky on, "Not now, Princess."

An evil laugh escaped her lips as she pulled out a knife and chucked it towards Bucky. Bucky knew she had perfect aim and could see she wasn't aiming for him. As the knife whizzed by his ear, he spun on his heal, just in time to see the knife land in a Hydra soldier.
