Asher

The past two weeks have been crazy. We've been working nonstop, all thanks to Sofia, who took a day off two weeks ago and left a lot of work behind her. She said she needed to check on Luke's teacher, so I let her go.

I came here earlier than usual to finish some work left. By the time I got here, Sofia had also arrived. She comes earlier and works more now that she doesn't bring Luke. "Asher, what's with the hurry?" she called as she stepped close to me. Instead of answering, I just walked faster. If I start chatting with her, I might leave work and continue our conversation because we shouldn't act like siblings at work; instead, we should keep it at home.

"Fine. You don't want to talk? If you don't want me to tell you about Luke, that's alright. He misses you so badly, poor him." She smirked because she knew the power Luke has over me, but I refused to play along with her, so I just said. "I also miss him. Don't worry, I'll visit soon." She waved her hand dismissively and I could see that she was defeated. I once again won.

I saw Sofia talking on her phone as I was making my way to my car after a long day of work. I approached her to see if everything was alright with Luke, but she started running away toward her car without bothering to look back. As my fear increased, I drove as quickly as I could to her house. When I got there, her car was nowhere to be found, I went straight for the door ignoring the security guard greeting me. As I opened the door, A quiet voice said. "You came back early Today, Ms. Harper.” I quickly noticed that she was a woman with black hair, brown eyes just like mine and a skinny build.

Once I saw her, I felt a sense of déjà vu. She was probably hard to forget even though I don't really remember faces that well.

Suddenly, I remembered the reason why I’m here, so I hurried to Luke's bedroom. He was playing by himself while sitting on the ground. When I saw him, I couldn't help but smile. Finally, he turned around and yelled, "Uncle!" He started to run into my arms, which made me grin even wider. It's great to see him again. Once I had him on the ground, I asked. "How are you going with your studies, Kiddo?." He simply smiled and proudly told me what he had learned without mentioning her.

When we heard Sofia yelling downstairs, we both went down. We saw her holding a bag from a bakery. I knew instantly what was inside the bag. Luke was the first to speak, "Mommy, you're late." She looked at him and smiled, "I had to wait in a long line to get these cakes, by the way, please don't tell me Amelia left." Her name is Amelia. "Yes, she has already left." She pouted and grabbed her phone to make a call. I took the bag and opened it just to find the same chocolate cakes I used to bring her when she was pregnant with Luke. That immediately ended up causing me to beam.

We sat on the kitchen stool and ate our cakes while talking with Luke, giving him our full attention and forgetting about anything else.
