Eleven years ago.

"Good morning, students!" Mrs. Smith said with a smile. She's always full of energy.

"Good morning, teacher." We all said it together. Mrs. Smith suddenly spoke after a long silence: "This is your final year in middle school, and you will soon be entering high school. You should definitely choose your future job before it's too late. Which leads me to my topic. What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Mrs. Smith looked around for someone in particular before saying, "Let's start with Grace, who seems a little talkative today."

Grace frowned angrily at the teacher before saying, "But I'm not the only one who's talking. There are other students as well."

"You have no right to tell me who is talking and who is not. Just answer my question, okay?" Mrs. Smith yelled.

"Fine, I want to be a doctor," she replied. Mrs. Smith couldn't hide her surprise. "A doctor?" she questioned. "In what specialty?"

Grace looked surprised and confused before answering, "I don't know. I still haven't figured it out yet."

"Good luck." Mrs. Smith smiled, and then she called another student. "What about you, Sarah?" "I want to be an engineer," Sarah replied.

Mrs. Smith asked the other students, and most of them said they want to become engineers, while the rest said they don't know yet.

We are the only ones left. "Next, we will go to Asher."

"I will become a businessman," I added, looking up. The teacher smiled and wished me luck.

She's the only one left. "And lastly, Amelia?"

"I want to be a teacher," she stated. There was a long pause before the teacher spoke up: "You're too smart to be a teacher, Amelia."

"You should reconsider your decision." Amelia nodded, a sad expression on her face.

It's not the first time she's been told something like this. Throughout these years, most of our teachers gave her sympathetic looks and told her she was too smart to become a teacher or she needs to think bigger.

They're probably just watching out for her, but I still feel bad for her. I turned around to check if she was still sad, but instead I saw that she was laughing with her best friend Grace, who sits next to her.

I didn't even realize I was smiling until we made eye contact. I quickly turned my head and didn't look back.

When our class ended, everyone left the classroom. Once I saw her heading towards the exit, I started stepping outside. I was about to greet her when I noticed Grace walking beside her and just walked away.

Grace is my neighbor and my little sister's best friend, and our parents are old friends, so if I do something reckless, she will tell my family everything, and I will be teased for it. The safer option is to simply walk away quietly.
