Amelia
I'm always drawn to any boy who shows me even a little bit of interest, and it's all because of my father, who didn't always play his part properly. It hurts a lot to watch other children enjoying their lives with their family. I've always felt jealous.
I've always hated weekends because they were supposed to be spent with our family, but instead I stayed in my room. Sometimes I cried my eyes out or just did something else to distract myself from my sadness.
But now that I'm older, there are other things I can do to distract myself from my unhappiness.
Every Sunday, my father stays at home all day and does not get up early; my mother does the same. So I steal his car keys and drive it wherever I want.
I have no idea if he is aware of this because I always come back home before they are awake.
It's sunrise, and the sky is a pink-orange color. I start the engine and drive away, making sure I'm wearing my seatbelt. This makes me the happiest, but I need to eat first.
I guess happiness doesn't last forever. "Come on! Please just..." I huffed and then exited the car.
When the car started making noises, I pulled over, but now it has stopped. It's okay; everything is fine. I'll just call a mechanic, and he'll take care of everything.
Like I said before, happiness doesn't last forever, because I have called him multiple times but he's never answered my calls.
You know what? I'll just take a cab to him and explain everything. I waved to the first cab I saw, but it didn't stop; instead, another car pulled over in front of me.
I ignored it, or at least I thought I did, because when I realized who was in that car, I flinched and began to have strange feelings that I'm not really sure how to describe.
He smiled as he greeted me, and I did the same. "Is everything alright?" He asked.
"My car has stopped, and I can't contact a mechanic. I really don't know what to do." I explained.
I have no idea why he's going out in a suit on a Sunday morning. My thoughts were interrupted by his voice: "Don't worry, I'll call a mechanic I know to repair your car." He paused before continuing, "Can I give you a ride home?" He appeared hesitant.
I nodded and got inside. He dialed a mechanic's number and gave him the location. Once his call ended, he started to drive away. "Asher, are you sure he'll finish repairing the car before morning?" I questioned.
"It won't take too long, so don't worry. He'll bring it over to your house once he's done." he reassured.
"No, it's fine; I'll go to him myself." I paused before adding, "Can you take me somewhere else?" He nodded, then asked, "Where to?" I smiled and replied, "To the nearest café."
I planned to sit in a café until I got a call that the mechanic was done, then take a cab to get the car and drive home.
Unfortunately, my plans were ruined. "I'll stay with you." He insisted. "No, Asher, it's perfectly fine. You've done enough, and I've wasted your time..." I stopped when I remembered his words from last time. It's heating up even on a cold morning.
He finally said, "You can repay me with a cup of coffee." It's only a cup of coffee, so it's not a big deal. I ordered a hot chocolate for myself and a cup of coffee for him. I took a seat at a free table I found, and he did the same.
My eyes widened. Why is he staying? I have to do something. "I hope you don't have much work left." I grinned. He took a sip from his coffee then said, "You're the most beautiful person I've ever seen, Amelia." His response surprised me. I had to ignore his comments once again: "I also hope I'm not wasting your time." I said.
"Amelia." He called my name nervously. "You look adorable when you smile; your eyes are beautiful; everything about you is perfect; every time I see you, I start feeling strange things, and I feel safe when you're around." He paused, then continued, "I want you to stay by my side forever; that's why..." He paused again and asked, "Would you like to go out with me?"
I lost count of time, but I suppose it has been minutes since he asked me out, and I'm still surprised since I don't know what to say. He spoke again after a long sigh: "Soon, I'll be leaving for a long time because of a business trip; that's why I had to confess everything before I go."
I'm shocked again, and I'm at a loss for words. "It's okay, Amelia; you don't have to answer right now. I'll give you all the time you need."
He patted my head as he stood up to leave. Then I said, "What if I say yes?" He stopped walking and smiled at me, "Then I'll make you the happiest woman in the entire world." My heart is beating fast and I'm hoping he can't hear it. He walked away, and I stood there thinking about what had just happened.
After hours of trying to figure out what had happened, I got a phone call from the mechanic, who gave me his address and told me to come get my car.
I thanked him sincerely for his work and drove away. I didn't pay him since he said Asher had already paid him.
My head was a mess when I got home, but I was relieved to see that my parents were still asleep.
Overthinking ended up causing me to be unable to sleep.
