Amelia

I never dated. I've never had a full conversation with a boy. I never had any male friends. In my entire life, I only had one real friend who truly cared about me; her name was Grace Davis. She was my childhood best friend until ninth grade, until her family moved because of her father's job.

I never cared about dating since all I ever wanted was a perfect married life because I wanted a relationship that would last, possibly forever.

All I want is true love, even though it's unreal. But I also deserve a happy ending. Why can't I have what everyone else has? I know this feeling it's called jealousy. This is the feeling I've experienced my entire life. I get jealous of other people's parents and relationships.

These are my thoughts as I walk back home after my mother's phone call.

Today was perfect; I met Sofia at a café and we talked and got to know each other until her brother showed up. As soon as he said, "Hi." I had a strong sense of déjà vu. It was again another reminder of him.

I was nervous while talking to him, and I'm sure he noticed. Until my phone started ringing. When I saw the caller ID, I was filled with horror. It was my mother, but she never calls at this time because she works overtime.

She started speaking first. "Where are you?" I could hear laughter behind her. "I'm with Sofia." I replied.

"Who is Sofia? Never mind, come back home right now." She ordered, but I could tell she was happy. Something is happening.

I couldn't help but ask. "Why? Is everything okay?" She was quiet for a while before responding. "Cassian is here." My jaw dropped, she ended the call, and I ran inside, apologized, and left.

Cassian. Just hearing his name brings back memories. I started walking faster, hoping I'll find a cab. I found one.

I'm finally home. I can't even open the door. Suddenly, the door flew open. My eyes widened. "Cassian." "Amelia."

Seriously, the way he says my name with a bright smile makes me want to pay billions of dollars just to hear him say it every single day.

He continued. "How have you been?" I lost all of my words and couldn't reply until he called my name again.

"Actually, I've been doing well. How about you? I haven't heard from you since college." He said with another smile "I've been pretty busy. Actually, I have a lot of patients."

I smiled when I noticed the sparkle in his eyes while he talked about his career. He achieved his dream after a lot of hard effort and never gave up since he liked what he was doing.

Suddenly, I heard someone speak behind him. It was his mother. "Amelia, why are you standing outside? Come in." She hugged me as soon as I went in and said, "We missed you. We had to drive for hours just to see you." I beamed.

"Look who's smiling like an idiot. Remember when you had a huge crush on Cassian? Cassian, she never stopped talking about you..." I covered her mouth. I'd like to introduce you to my older sister Stella. She's happily married and has a daughter the same age as Luke. She's still childish, though. When I turned to look at him, he was laughing, and I let go of her mouth.

"What's up, Stella?" I sighed.

"This is how you greet your older sister after ignoring me for so long." She fake-cried, and I ignored her again, running straight towards my niece. "Lily. How are you?" She jumped off the couch and ran to me.
