10. The trip

Everything seems to go our way today. The sun is shining and a light breeze cools the air, the perfect day to take a walk through the woods.

While Mallory and Duke arranged food and refreshments, Tanya was taking a look at the map. They found a path that goes to a small temple on the hill. Grin was immediately up for it, assuming that he can restore his karma up there. We all could only shake our heads at that. Even so, we took this path anyway. It was the safest and also known for its perfect views.

Mallory took a camera out, "Our first day off in a year guys. I want to make sure that we have photos of this moment." I wasn't aware of that, but she was right. Since they arrived in Anaheim, they have done nothing but fight crimes, save the world or play hockey. After they defeated Lord Dragaunus and his henchmen, they finally have finished their mission. But because they also destroyed the inter-dimensional gateway of his, it is impossible for them to return back home to Puckworld. So, they decided to make a good life on earth while they still can.

At the entrance of the path, Mallory announced her first shot to be taken now. On a stand, she arranged a timer and got into the group...with me off the picture. "N/A, what are you doing? Get over here!" "But Mallory, I am not one of the mighty ducks." Duke pulled me by the wrist, "So what? You are part of the team now, so come on." He pulled me in front of him, "Smile N/A."

Mallory checked the photo, "It is perfect!" "With Nosedive it would have been better" corrected Tanya. Wild wing however didn't see it that way, "It is his own fault Tanya." After our first shot, we finally began to climb the hill.

It is breathtaking scenery. While we all looked around, Tanya announced something, "Up there is a wildlife reserve, no hunting allowed." It was open for the public, but with a warning: Please do not leave the path! Wild wing seem to take it very seriously, "Okay guys, we stay together, no one leaves the group at any point!" Duke couldn't resist, "Geez wing, keep your feathers on. It is just a precaution." He felt a little embarrassed at his quick response, "Sorry guys, I just want to make sure that no one gets hurt or left behind."

I grabbed his shoulder, "We all know how much of a good leader you are, but this trip is also for you to calm down for once. I never seen you relaxed before." To my surprise, the rest of the group agreed. Wild wing has been like this, ever since he had put the mask on. Even now he has it on!

"Okay N/A...I...try to calm down", with that said, he had taken the mask off and placed it into his side bag. I took his hand in mine and pulled him with me. For the next few hours, we enjoyed the scenery of nature. Once in a while, I heard them talk about their own hometown and how different it was compared to planet earth. Only Wild wing stayed silence. This worries me, "What is wrong?" "Huh? Me? Oh...nothing."

"Are you thinking about your brother?"

He sighted, "He is a bit difficult lately, but I don't know why. We always got along before."

"Beats me... I can't help you with this...sorry."

"That's okay. When we get back home I have a serious talk with him."

I gave him a weak smile, "Just don't be too hard on him."

"We see."

CLACK! The sound was far away. It came from the hills.

"Did you hear that?"

Wild wing listened, "no...what?"

"A clacking sound, like metal got hit together."

Duke heard our conversation, "Metal in the woods?"

I laughed it off, "You are right...must be my imagination."

Tanya handed me a bottle, "Drink enough water N/A." She assumed that I was hallucinating from dehydration. Instead of arguing, I took it and drank the fluid.

CLACK!

I hear it again. But this time, I was too embarrassed to tell them about it. It was a bit louder than before. We were now at the main gates, that kept us from the wildlife reserve. Form there were stairs, made out of wood boards. Wild wing and I just stepped onto the first one and suddenly...the ground was shaking.

"What is happening?!" yelled Mallory, trying to stay on her feet.

"I don't know" answered Duke, using his sword to hold himself.

Grin announced a strong force heading their way. He was right...in a matter of seconds; one explosion after another caused an avalanche. The ground before us fell, along with Mallory, Duke, Tanya and Grin. Only Wild wing and I were on a safe spot. He tried to contact the group...but no one answered, "Damn it, we have to help them N/A." This time, he grabbed my hand and was about to leave the path, as someone got in our way.

"It has been a long time, hasn't it Duck!"

Wild wing couldn't believe his eyes, "Oh no, not him!"
