Sorry for the extremely late update! I let my overthinking get the best of me and didn't think this chapter was good enough. After many re-writes and scraps, I'm still not satisfied with it. But here it is! Enjoy <33

Alexander Stone.

Maxine and I were in our local supermarket, shopping for tonight's dinner.

We would usually do bi-weekly shops, but tomorrow we'd be eating out in a restaurant with my parents. The thought alone was daunting.

"Eggs next!" Maxine read from her shopping list she'd been writing in with a glittery gel pen.

I made sure to strap her into the baby seat of the trolley after she ran away multiple times.

"Right away, Miss Stone!" I exclaimed and bolted the trolley to the last aisle. Maxine giggled as she was being pushed around. She loved the thrill.

I grabbed the twelve-pack of eggs from the highest shelf and added it to the trolley that was filled with milk, bread, a variety of cereals and more essentials.

"Daddy, now can we go to the toy aisle? Please, please, please?" She joined her hands together and pleaded at me. She'd been wanting to go ever since we'd stepped foot in the store.

"Okay, sweetheart," I nodded and pushed the trolley to the opposite aisle, the toy section, every parent's worst nightmare.

There were cuddly toys staring into my soul, squishies, electronic toys, building blocks, action figures, the whole lot. I rubbed my hands together, "Alright, baby girl. What do you want?"

Her bottom lip trembled, "Can-can I get out the trolley please and choose myself? I promise I won't run, Daddy," She pulled out the waterworks and made grabby hands at me. The little manipulator.

It did work, however. My heart ached at the devastating sight and I gave in. I sighed from my nose, "Okay, come on, let's get you out," I hooked my hands under her arms and pulled her out, settling her on her two feet.

I was cautious of her movements, ensuring she didn't take me by surprise and run off. But no, my little girl was too busy cuddling toys in her arms whilst I stood behind her, disapproving.

She had too many toys in her arms and I didn't want her to be spoiled every day. I crouched before her and curled my finger under her chin, "Maxine, what did I say to you on the car journey, here?"

"Uhhhhh..." She thought about it, her eyes drifting to the ceiling, "Don't eat your bogies?"

"No-uh, I mean yes. But, what else did I say to you?"
