“So, what happened?” Stiles asks as she rests her cutlery on her empty plate (practically licked clean by her, because holy frick, the man knows how to cook... even when he accidentally burns the food.) Appetite of a wolf, of course, he finished before her, though, only by a few minutes (because she knows she’s an endless pit when it comes to food), but sweetly, he waits for her to finish before attempting to clear the table. Stiles smirks amusedly when he only looks confused, teases him with, “You lose your werewolf side again? Am I gonna need to install a smoke alarm for you, old man?”
Derek scoffs, pretends to look more offended than he really is. “Again with the old man thing? You into old people, Stiles? You sure I’m actually old and wrinkly enough for you?”
Stiles grins. “I’m pansexual, so, yeah, maybe.”
Derek chuckles, shakes his head as he slowly rises and takes their empty plates with him. “No, the wolf is still here.” He throws her a “wolfish” smirk over his shoulder as he moves towards the kitchen, smirk widening as he turns his head frontwards again, because he can feel her eyes on his backside. He places the plates and cutlery in the sink, runs the water for a few seconds to rinse everything off, waits until he’s walking back to the table and sat in front of her to tell her, “You’re just very distracting.”
Stiles knows he means it in totally the opposite way as she takes it, but still, she’s a girl, she likes to feel special, and she has to make sure. “I’ve lost count of how many people have told me that throughout my life... and it’s never a good thing.” She grumbles, then, pouts, shoots him a hopeful little smile as she asks, “Is it a good thing now?”
Derek sends her a small grin, nods, tells her, “So good, I nearly let my home burn down... again.”
Stiles is both touched and appalled by BOTH his words and the all too casual tone he says them with. “Dear Moses, you have a dark sense of humour.” She’s also pleasantly surprised, because even now, after all these years of knowing him, the more time she spends with him, the more she still finds she’s learning about him.
“Sorry... Too much?” Derek winces slightly as he waits for her answer. Though, he admits, he senses no real tension from her.
“No.” Stiles chirps, sends him a reassuring grin, heart fluttering when he nods and smiles back. “I’m just a little surprised, that’s all. You’re a very difficult person to read, Derek Hale. Which is weird, because you never really hide who you are.”
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, you guys are as close to me as I was to my family. Specifically you, Scott, Lydia, Isaac and Chris.” Derek admits with a small coy blush that Stiles almost has a mini aneurism over (she swears.)
Stiles grins proudly back at him. “It does make me feel better. I feel special. Honoured, even.”
Derek rolls his eyes, senses her teasing, even though he knows she means it – can see it in her slightly flushed cheeks. He smirks, then uses a different, more seductive approach, lowers his voice, practically purrs out the words. “Anyway, if your ordinary human nose managed to smell the burning before me, that just means I need to try harder to distract you in the future.”
He shrugs, like that’s that, and Stiles’ heart may (absolutely does) skip more than the healthy amount. Still, she (by some small miracle) manages to stay composed, even manages to smirk and tease him. “Your efforts are already beyond satisfactory, buuut I would definitely NOT oppose to that...” She wiggles her brows, feels her toes curl from the giddiness his adorable little laugh fills her with. She arches a brow, grins, asks him, “And since when are you the type to like a challenge?” She chuckles, tells him, “With supernatural beings in general, I find they hate being challenged, ‘cause they’re so used to being super at everything. Well, apart from Scott. Bless him.”
