“Anyway, to what do I owe the pleasure of this little late night visit of yours?” Derek finally asks when they’re settled on his couch.
Stiles shoots him a grateful smile when he hands her a fresh bottle of beer. Her fingers halt over the TV controller, her efforts of finding something funny to watch on Netflix being pausing as the nerves lightly begin to bubble away inside her. “Um...”
Derek frowns, looks instantly concerned. “Is everything OK?”
“No. I mean, yes, everything is OK, I just –“
Derek gently pulls the beer from her hand, places both their bottles to the coffee table. He turns to face her, gently pulls her hands into his own. He clasps them tight and looks her in the eyes as he says, “Relax.”
Stiles nods, breathes and lets herself calm at the feel of his touch. “I was just... wondering about this second date of ours...” She eyes him carefully, but he only seems a little more confused.
“What about it?” Derek then tries not to look so worried (or sound it.) “We can reschedule it, if you want? I know you didn’t come back just to see me. And it is the holidays, so it’s completely fine if –“
“Derek.” Stiles grasps one of his big hands in both her own, gives him a reassuring smile. “First of all, I came back to see you just as much as anybody else. We’ll always still be pack, no matter what. You guys are my family. You’re my family.” She chuckles softly when her words get a rather adorable dopey little grin from him. Though, she quickly grows nervous again, feels her cheeks slowly heating up as she says, “I just, well, I got thinking, and you know what I’m like when I start doing that –“
“I do.”
“Exactly.” Stiles sees his teasing smile, it’s totally cute and sexy, as it always is, but she’s also trying to be serious right now (and not just let him revert her back to the annoying hyperactive school girl that had a crush on him.) “Anyway, I couldn’t sleep, because of it.”
“Because of what?” And now, Derek is slightly confused again.
“Huh? Oh, right!” Stiles rolls her eyes at herself, shoots the wolf a playful glare when he shoots her another sexy little smirk. “Our date.”
Derek blinks, processes, then, looks slightly saddened. “I didn’t mean for to it cause you so much stress.”
“What? No, it’s not. It’s really not.” Stiles is quick to reassure him, like she always tries to be. She gives his hand a little squeeze, smiles rather hopelessly and bashfully as tells him, “I’m just rather spectacularly bad at explaining myself when it comes to the guy of my dreams–and oh, my God, I actually just said that last part out loud, didn’t I?”
Derek’s grinning like a fool, feels like a fool, but doesn’t care. “Guy of your dreams, huh?”
Stiles rolls her eyes at his smug tone, but still has to fight back a coy smile as she huffs out, “Oh, shut up.”
Derek lets out a quiet sigh, lifts his free hand to gently swipe away the stray locks from her slightly frazzled (but always perfect) face. “You know you can always talk to me. So just tell me what’s going on.” His voice is low and soft; gently coaxing.
“Right. You’re right. I can do that.” Stiles nods, doesn’t notice his fond smile as she takes a moment to mentally prep herself. And as always, she’s lucky enough to be able to count on the ability of being able to just blurt words out, anyway. So she just goes for it, lifts her eyes back to his before hurriedly blurting out, “You said you wanted to show me your true wolf form on our second date tomorrow night and I was just wondering if that was like a casual thing where we go for a run in the woods like we used to or if it’s like something else a little more personal which is totally OK by me because I think you should know by now that I’m fully invested in this thing between us, whatever the thing is and I –“
