9 years later— August 18, 2022.

It's my 25th birthday and I'm so excited everything in my life has been going great since I got away from my sperm donor at 16. I graduated high school at the top of my class I was valedictorian and I went to college at CAU and was on the deans list my entire 4 years there when I graduated college with a 4.0 GPA and I owe it all to my mama side of the family fuck my dad side. I ended up starting my own interior design company and it's been doing great.

"Happy birthday Veah," my cousin Kelly spoke.

"Thank you. Can we take a break?"

"Yes ma'am."

I walked over to Kelly and we hugged. We're only a year apart but always been close.

"You look amazing girl."

"Thank you I feel amazing."

"So I got a surprise for you."

"What a Birkin?"

"Girl no I just bought you one last month."

"Telfar."

"No."

I saw a woman walk up to us.

"Happy birthday Veah."

I didn't say anything because I couldn't believe my ears.

"Is this real?"

"Yes baby I'm home."

I broke down crying as I walked towards my mama and we hugged and cried.

"After spending 20 years in prison for a crime I didn't commit I'm finally home and free."

"I missed you so much."

"I missed you too and I'm sorry that you went through everything that you did I thought I was protecting you by agreeing to his terms and that you would've been safe with him I should've had you taken out of that home but I didn't want him to kill us all before we got to safety. I'm sorry Veah."

"It's okay mama I don't hate you at all."

"You don't?"

"How could I you was doing the right thing you didn't know that he was like that no one knew but his family."

"Don't worry he's never getting out and he's going to get what he deserves."

"You want to join me in my photoshoot then we can catch up," I asked.

"Absolutely."

I smiled as we held hands and walked back over to the photographer we finished up my shoot I said goodbye to Kelly then me and my mom made our way to my condo to order take out and catch up.

"What do you have a taste for mom?"

"Doesn't matter baby take out is fine."

"From our favorite restaurant?"

She looked at me and smiled.

"Yes."

I nodded called Twisted Kitchen and placed an order.

"You know your auntie and uncle plus Kelly kept me up to date with you once you moved in with them."

"Yes ma'am Kel told me."

"I'm very proud of you especially for not giving up when you had every right to."

"I couldn't once I got free from him I told myself that everything I do is going to be for you so I pushed myself never made a B always had all A's."

"I know and you've made me proud."

"We gotta get you back right and on track."

"You're right about that."

"You can stay with me until we get you a house and a car and I'm going to help you."

"All I need is a job mama can do the rest."

"I know you can but I want to help please I make more than enough to help you get started."

"Okay."

"After we eat we're going shopping then car shopping."

"Alright."

"You still have your brokerage license?"

"I do but I don't think anyone will come work with me let alone sell them a house."

"Yes they will we're going to clear up your name and sue Gwinnett PD."

"How?"

"I talked with aunt Trinity and she told me that they didn't really didn't give a full investigation let alone ask you any questions plus you didn't even match the description the elderly couple gave them once they've calmed down and was able to make out the shoe size."

Yes my mama is a twin and yes my grandma made their names sound sort of alike.

"I don't have money for a lawyer Veah."

"Don't worry about that I'll handle it we're going to get your name cleared and get your life back I'm here to help you."

"Thank you baby girl."

"No need to thank me mama it's the least that I can do."

She nodded I called up my lawyer who is also my best friend Asia and told her what I wanted to do. Asia haven't lost a case yet my girl is good at what she do. We met freshman year in college and we instantly clicked. She's now engaged to be married and I'm single and not looking I don't trust no man and it's my sperm donor fault.

"Food is here Veah."

I snapped out of my thoughts and nodded I prayed over the food and we started eating.

"Are you in a relationship?"

"No ma'am I don't trust no guy and I'll never let a man get close to me ever again."

Yes I went to therapy yes I have healed but will I trust that something like that won't happen to me again no. Do I believe that not all guys are like my sperm donor yes. Will I ever find love no because who would want to love someone like me who's been through what I been through.

"You know that every guy isn't like your father right?"

"Yes ma'am I know but my trust is so messed up plus I'm so scared to even let a guy close to me maybe one day I'll find happiness but right now it's not happening."

"Alright."

We finished up eating then we made our way outside to my car and we got in we placed our seatbelts on. I started up my car connected my phone to Bluetooth then I started playing my music. I drove off heading in the direction of the mall.

Me and my mom can't get back the time that we lost or the memories but we can make some new memories together.
