I was waiting in the school office when the principal summoned me from class. I am usually a good kid, so I don't know why I was called. I had even brought my bag since they made us change classrooms in middle school for each subject.

"Good. You're here already."

I looked up to see my mother, who walked through the door. She looked over at me quickly before looking towards the teacher waiting behind the counter. "She all set. I will be taking her home now." The teacher was about to speak when the principal stepped out of the office. "Go, Brandy! He will be here in five minutes." The principal's words left me confused and wondering why she used my mother's first name.

"Let's go, Alora."

My mother took my hand and yanked me out of my seat. She forced me to start running to keep up with her. I was only ten years old, so it was hard to keep up with my adult mother. She had practically ripped the passenger door open but kindly helped me get inside. She looked around after closing the door before running to the driver's side. I barely had time to buckle in when my mom sped out of the school parking lot.

"Mommy, what is wrong?" I asked as I looked at her, terrified.

"Remember that bad man I told you to run from if they summon you to the office?" She asked, glancing over at me to see my nod.

"Well, the school called me. He contacted the school to try and take you away from me while you were in class." I looked around in fear, even though I had no idea what I was looking for. "Don't worry, though. We are going to Cali-Vada. Your grandmother lives there, and she is going to protect us." If memory served me right, that was one of the eco-city domes along the state border of California and Nevada to replace Reno.

I found history fascinating, especially anything from the 1980s to the 2040s. It was ten centuries different from the one we're in, but it was the creation century for many of the stuff we have now. "Mommy, will we finally stop moving so much?" We moved so much that I can't remember making a single friend. So I knew no one was going to miss me.

"Yes, baby, this is the last time we will move." She said as she petted my head. Comforting me, making me wish I could do the same for her. Before I could tell her I loved her, another car T-bone into her side of the vehicle sending us flying and rolling into an intersection.

My mother had thrown herself over me to protect me from the impact as best as she could, but I still passed out. She was holding me outside the car as men with guns surrounded us. When I woke, a man in a suit pulled me from my bloody mother.

"MOMMY!"

I cried out to her as I watched someone hit her over the head with the back of their gun. He cried out in pain before striking me to knock me unconscious. "LET'S ME GO! HELP! SOMEONE HELP! THEY HURT MY MOM!" They covered my mouth with their hand, which they regretted instantly as I bit into their hands.

When I came back, too, I was strapped down to a moving table, surrounded by people in scrubs. I wanted to scream and fight, but whatever they had over my mouth made me sleepy again. I woke once more but didn't open my eyes when I heard someone speaking. "Be careful. That's my daughter on your table. I don't care about the woman. That bitched dare to keep her from me. Inform my mother once she is in the ICU." I slowly open my eyes to see a man with black hair and fair skin in a black and red suit. He noticed I looked at him, allowing me to see his brown eyes.

Something about this man felt wrong to me as I watched him signal them to put me back under. He smiled coldly as he came over and petted my head. "Everything was going to be okay, sweetie. You were in a car accident. They are going to help you."

Leaving me feeling scared as to what would happen when I woke. Wondering if I would ever see my mother again.
