I was being hunted, which was entertainingly funny since they couldn't see me. None of the guards had any infrared red vision. So unless they used cameras, they couldn't find me. I timed my moments just right so I could sneak down to the second basement. I choked out a few guards and scientists on my way.
No one said I had to kill everyone. Some could take a small nap, as I found my mother. When I got to the prison cells, I saw Marla standing against the glass that held my mother. Mom was hanging by her arms, covered in cuts and blood. "If you don't want her to die, you might as well show yourself, Alora."
Marla looked right at me as my Defense Bionetic alerted me that she was on an even playing field like me. I deactivated my Ghost bionic to reveal myself to her. "You fucked him, killed his second wife, married him, and allowed him to experiment on you?" Marla gave me a cocky smirk as she shrugged.
"You think we wouldn't know how to make more of you?"
Several men had revealed themselves, showing I was surrounded. My mother woke up just in time to see I had fallen for Marla's trap. "Alora, no." That was all she was able to say. "Mom, don't worry. It's my turn to save you."
She looked at me, concerned, as Marla laughed. "You really think you can beat our super soldiers?" I smirked at her and shot her in the arm before tapping my arm to send out an EMP shock wave from my body. The entire building shakes as the men drop down onto their knees. All the Jail doors unlocked, and the cuffs holding my mother up released her.
"When I was on Mars, I evolved my Bionetics and discovered a secret weapon. EMP waves that come with my Defense Bionetics."
Marla glared at me as Terrance came stumbling through another door. He pointed a blaster at my mother, who was trying to regain her bearings. "Move, and I will kill her." I tilted my head to the side. "Like you killed your mother?"
Terrance looked at me confused as my mother shook her head, telling me not to go there. "Your men I killed when they found me on a farm. They killed Grandma Izzy. She was part of the rebellion. We ended up burying her in the stars."
Marla tried to move for one of the dead guard's blasters, but I shot her leg, stopping her. I still maintained eye contact with Terrance, who looked confused. "You see, I have no trouble killing if it means protecting a loved one," I said as I moved the blaster to aim at Terrance.
"I'm your father. You won't shoot me. I made you who you are now."
I shot him in the arm, making him drop his blaster to shout in pain. "Yes, you are my father. And, yes, you made me who I am today. A cold-hearted monster that will keep killing until you give her mother back." I moved the blaster away to kill one of his men on their knees in cold blood.
Terrance just laughed while holding his arm. "You can kill them all, including Marla. I still won't give you back, Brandy, or let you leave here." I smirked wickedly before killing all his men but Marla. Terrance's eyes went wide from my actions.
"You couldn't get me to lay down and let General Lin rape me or use me as a weapon. So give that sadist Rosaline and marry the psychopath who killed her mother."
Terrance looked at me with the same wicked smile I gave him. "I'll do it again. Though I would have made sure your mother was dead." A blaster fired and hit me, making me stumble backward. More of his men had made it down to the cells to surround me again. Right as I was about fire back, Marla managed to get a blaster and shot my leg.
The door behind me ended up exploding open soon after I was shot. A blaster shot flew from the smoke and hit Marla in the head. Terrance used the chaos to escape as one of his men tried to get my mother. I shot them in the chest with my good arm before forcing my FirstMed Bionetic chip into the advanced mode for healing.
"Alora!"
I ignored the voice and ran over to my mother. Her FirstMed Bionic was malfunctioning, which was evident since her injuries weren't healing. Jarek and Devon came running through the smoke with others from the Rebellion. I used my healing abilities to help heal my mother. She tries stopping me by grabbing my forearm.
"No! I already lost you once. I will not lose you again."
Mom smiled at me before allowing me to heal her. Devon and Jarek helped me heal my mother as we escaped the grounds. It wasn't without a fight, of course. If I wasn't healing my mother, who was being piggyback carried by Devon. I was firing off at guards with Jarek.
We didn't escape until the sun rose in the Dome. Rosaline had got us a van and helped us all make it to another transport location. So we could change vehicles to get to our hideout. I had even used my Ghost bionic to hide the van while healing my mother. She tapped at my hand to get my attention and gave me a soft smile.
Mom slowly sat up and petted my head. "You can focus on cloaking the car, Sweetie. You healed me to the point that my bionics kicked in." I squinted my eyes at her, unsure if she was pulling a parental move on me to stop. Devon hovered his hand over my mother's back and winked at me.
She sighed and gave a soft chuckle. I stop my end of healing and put all my power into the Ghost Bionetic chip. When we finally got into the hideout, Rhea opened the door and pulled one of the two gurneys to the bumper.
"Brandy, please come lay down. We will take you straight to the medic bay for treatment."
My mother didn't argue as she got on the gurney. They pulled the other one beside it, and all looked at me. "I won't need medical treatment until you tell me my mother will be okay." I said, refusing treatment. I got out of the van and stood beside her to hold her hand.
"When did you become my mother?"
My mother teased me as we moved to Medic Bay. "I am my mother's child, after all." We both chuckled before I kissed her head and left them to take her to surgery. I watched from the hallway as Rhea's assistant did a standing diagnostic on me. It would have been Rhea if she wasn't the head surgeon at the time.
"Julie, I'll take it from here." I turned to see Jarek taking over for Rhea's assistant. "Did you forget that your messages can be geo tracked?" He said as he stared at the screen. "I actually forgot about that. I was too busy trying to say my goodbyes in case I died." I replied as I went back to watching my mother's surgery.
"Okay, but since you're alive. You think I can reply verbally?" I like over at him from the corner of my eyes. "Is it how I'm stupid for what I did?" He shook his head before looking up at me.
"I love you more than you believe, Alora. Yeah, what you did was fucking stupid."
Jarek gently touched my cheek. "But I would join that stupid war if I got to die beside you." He kissed my forehead and tapped a button on the glass tablet. I got dizzy and stumbled into the glass, baffled. I looked down to see my Bionetics turn off. "I'm sorry, Alora, but we must treat you now."
I looked at him, confused and scared about why he was doing this. "At least please be the real Jarek." I could see hurt appear in his eyes. As he saw me, I couldn't believe it was him anymore. "Alora Lux, you are the sunset on my rainy day."
Those words stung more than he meant. I knew he thought they would bring me comfort. But it actually broke my heart instead. The strain I put on my biometrics and body finally started to take effect.
"Jarek, you traitor." That was the last thing I said before Jarek caught me as I fell asleep.
