It had been a few weeks since you and Light last hung out and the cameras and bugs had been long since removed from his home. You two decided to shop together for your clothes for the ceremony at To-Oh.

"Hey Light", You say, trying to get the young scholar's attention.

Holding up a viridian green dress, you ask him "Do you think this will look good on me?"

The dress was long and formal, it was perfect for the To-Oh Enterance Ceremony. Yourself, along with light and one other person passed the enterance exam with perfect scores.

He looked up at you, his eyes glimmering.

"Y-yeah", He stuttered. 

He knew that you would look absolutely stunning. The thought of it, though, made him nervous. He didn't want to look like a fool standing next to you. But with that, it reminded him...

"Hey, did you see that guy at the enterance exams?", He inquired.

You frowned at his lack of enthusiasm at the clothes you were about to purchase, and for the fact he changed the subject. But you began to think about his question..

"The scruffy one with black hair?" You responded with another question

"Yeah him, do you think he passed the exams?"

You began to think to yourself after his most recent question

That's a bit odd to ask

Why did it matter if he passed? We'll probably never see him again...

"Uh.. I don't know. He didn't look much like a student, much less a successful one", you replied.

The man in question looked very pale and sickly. He dressed in an informal style, sporting a white long-sleeved shirt and jeans. He sat in his chair very oddly and held his pencil in a peculiar manner. His long, disheveled and greasy black hair was a notable feature but was only outmatched by the extreme bags hanging under his eyes. He didn't belong in a school, and he definitely didn't belong to such a prestigious one like To-Oh.

You took the clothes you picked to checkout and proceeded to pay for your things.

Petals from the cherry blossom tree began to dance around you and Light as you walked up to your new school. It would certainly be memorable for both you and him. You continued to march up to the building, your hand in his.

"You're college students now, that's kinda exciting." exclaimed the shigami, following close behind the two of you.

"I am filled with joy", He continued in a sarcastic tone.

As the Enterance Ceremony began to start, the principal opened his mouth to speak.

"And now for the freshman address, Freshman representative, Light Yagami and Y/N L/N..."

"Yes.." Light stood holding your hand to walk to the podium

"... And Hideki Ryuga"

A man stood up from the crowd walking up to the podium as well. The crowd gasping and whispering.

"Hideki Ryuga? The pop idol?"

Their whispers were silenced, though, when the man was visible to everyone. The man was wearing jeans and white sneakers, his shoelaces untied. He slouched as he walked. His head hung low but his eye bags were hanging lower.

I knew I'd be giving the address with two other students, but i never expected this.

The man walking forth was, in fact, not the pop idol. your eyes flickered above his head as you read his true name

Is that..

No it couldn't be....

"AS ALL OF US EMBARK ON THIS NEW CHAPTER IN OUR LIVES..", Light projected his voice into the microphone.

You, however were not paying attention to Light's voice. You were more focused on the strange man standing next to you. You continued to give him side glances until both, your turn, and his were up. You all bowed and went to take a seat. As you walked down the stairs leading to the podium, light squeezed your hand upon hearing the strange man behind you, beckoning him.

"Light..", Hideki whispered.

"Light Yagami.. Your father is chief, Suichiro Yagami of the NPA. Your respect for your father is only matched by your strong sense of justice", He stated.

Who the hell is this guy

"You are planning to join the police agency when you graduate. And you've already got experience, seeing as you've already helped the police solve a number of cases in the past..."

"Now you're showing an interest in the Kira case. I am impressed by your abilities and your sense of justice. If you promise not to tell anyone, I have important information regarding the Kira investigation I'd like to share with you."

Your face remained forward, but your eyes darted to the side as you listened in to the whispers.

Where is all this coming from and who IS he? 

Is it safe to just ignore him?

But.. I wonder what this information actually is

"I won't tell anyone.. what is it?", Light finally replied after giving it some thought.

The man turned his head to look at light.

"I want to tell you I'm L", the man whispered.

You stifled your breath in surprise at this news. Time seemed to remain still for all but a moment. Thoughts swarmed your mind.

"If you are who you say you are i have nothing but my respect and admiration." Light said in response.

Ryuk began to chuckle.

"If this guy really is L like he says he is, consider me impressed."

Light's hands began to tremble as he took a seat at his desk in his room. 

"DAMMIT HE GOT ME! That damn L! I've never been so humiliated in my life" the brown-haired boy shouted.

"Why dont you use y/n's shinigami eyes. Then you should have no problem killing him", ryuk proposed.

"And what good will shinigami eyes do me if this is just a trap!? If I kill him and it turns out he isn't really L, That'd be like announcing to the real L that I AM KIRA." Light explained'

"Dont think that humans killing people and shinigami killing people are the same thing, because they're not" The young man finalized.

"uhh.. sorry" Ryuk said quietly

"At first, i was going to have him die in  a car accident or have him kill himself, but i can't do it unless im sure with 100% certainty that this guy IS L... no.. its too late to do anything since he's already approached me and introduced himself as L. It doesn't matter how sure i am... regardless of the cause of death, if L dies now, the police are going to suspect me. i underestimated him..."

"For L this strategy acts as a solid defense, it allows him to confront Kira directly. He can defend and attack.... He got me"

"This is perfect, a match of wits".
