"There's an ache in my heart no amount of time could undo. As I've had to learn to let go the pieces of myself that I lost when I lost you. So much of who I was, was because of you. And now I must navigate that loss, too." ~Liz Newman

This was the new world. You either adapted and survived or you died! Mercy wasn't a common term in this harsh reality. Not even for the innocent. There were no rules so everyone made their own. That's what created chaos.

Chaos took over what was left of humanity. We were supposed to be fighting together against the dead but instead we fought each other over who would rule. Democracy no longer served; only dictatorship could be found here. Negan led the Saviors on a destructive path bulldozing through other groups and turning them into slaves. Surely he felt like a king at the top of his domain towering over everyone and anyone that dared to stand against him. And now he had me. As if I were the key to his success he chose me as his queen. There was a time that I would've done anything to be his queen but that was no longer the case. The mere thought of him repulsed me. He was a monster who had to be stopped! Negan could not win. I would not allow him to!

I sat in the corner of the room with my knees pressed against my chest. It had been three days since I had arrived here and three long days since I had seen or heard from Daryl. I deeply worried about him and wondered what condition Negan left him in. I prayed he was safe and alive. If Negan or anyone hurt Daryl I would personally rain down hell fire against everyone here!

A knock at the door broke my thoughts, "Hey, uh, I brought you a plate of food." Dwight walked in and eyed the table that still had plates full of untouched food. "You still haven't ate?"

"What does it look like?" I muttered.

"Ruby, you have to eat at some point." Dwight sighed. "It's not healthy for you. Negan won't be happy!"

"Does it look like I give two shits about what Negan thinks?" I snapped at him.

Dwight shook his head and piled the plates in his hands, "Have it your way."

My eyes rolled at his last comment before he locked the door behind him. The last thing I would have 'my way' was when Negan was dead! First, I needed to earn Negan's trust and learn the layout of this settlement before breaking myself and Daryl out.

The door suddenly bursted open as Negan entered. I stood to my feet quickly as he slammed the door behind him. My eyes quickly averted to the ground as he walked up to me and roughly grabbed my face, forcing me to look at him.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Negan snapped.

"I'm not sure I know what you mean."

"Don't play dumb with me, Ruby!" Negan sighed frustratedly,"Why aren't you eating?"

"Not hungry." I sneered, pushing his hand away from my face.

"Is that right?" Negan narrowed his eyes at me. "How about we make a deal?"
