Walking along, Amity realized she had finally gotten all the groceries. It's been a few unsettling months, but she and her friends were finally getting used to the human realm. Amity embraced the rays of the tingly earth sun. But she had to hurry because Ms. Noceda was waiting for her. Camilla wanted to make Luz and the rest of them her famous Carne De Res tacos. Amity knew how important this job, she was assigned to do, was. Amity went through the door, and she was awaited by a rushed Camilla prepping to cook. " Great, you're back just in time to start. I know you haven't been outside by yourself before but I'm proud of you.
A new world can be scary, I'm proud of you for embracing it with a cheerful heart." Ms. Noceda went quiet for a second, making sure she had everything she needed to make the dish. Amity stood stuttered, not knowing what to say. The first time someone said they were proud of her. Amity knew she wanted to be strong, especially for Luz.
But Ms. Noceda appreciating her made her feel that she was around the right company. "Do you mind helping me with these tacos, Mija?" " Sure, I'd love to, but I don't know what tacos look or taste like, so I'm not sure how useful I'll be," Amity replied. " Don't worry, I'll teach you. I'm sure you'll love them. They are Luz's favourite after all" Camilla replied.
Halfway through the recipe, Amity started mixing the filling by Camilla's instructions, while Camilla washed a few dishes. They caught Luz below the kitchen arch and the noise shattered. Camilla and Amity immediately stopped their movement and stared at Luz. Luz's face was lifeless and her eyes filled with nothing but guilt and exhaustion. "Hey Mija, did you sleep well?" Camilla asked. "Mmhmm" was Luz's whispered reply. She walked in, drank a glass of water, and left.
Camilla sorrowfully sighed and continued cleaning up. Amity continued to mix the ingredients as she reflected on the last few months. The first night, they all slept in Luz's room. The group eventually split up as they stayed longer. Hunter and Gus slept in one room. Amity, Vee and Willow shared a room. But Luz chose to be alone.
She had been spending all of her time sleeping and working. Ever since the Day of Unity, Luz had been getting terrible nightmares. Amity and the rest of them would be woken up to Luz screaming in her sleep, with the same pain in her voice as the moment she lost King. Luz spent her remaining energy researching ways to return to the Isles.
Some nights Luz would come knocking at the door, asking Amity to sleep with her.

Luz would fall asleep on the couch on Amity's lap as she was brushed to sleep. This had been continuing for weeks on end. Luz had stopped talking to everyone, never stepped outside and couldn't even hear the words " Day of Unity". It was hard for all of them to watch. The worst part was that Luz wouldn't let anyone help. She always thought that others helping her would mean she was a burden.
" Luz knows that we all love her, but I think she's just bothered with herself. Ms. Noceda loves Luz so much, and she's been putting so much effort into helping Luz feel better. She got medication to help Luz and even switched her to homeschooling. Luz started therapy, but with an issue like this, you can only go so far with metaphors without exposing the truth. What happened to the lovable dork I fell in love with?" Amity thought.
