cw: anxiety
Sun stood, entirely stagnant. He stared down in horror at the multiple pieces of paper sitting on the craft desk in his room. It was just after the Saturday midnight patrol. Sun had left Moon notes written in colorful crayon, asking him if he was okay.
Ever since the trip he took with you to the bakery, he hadn't heard anything from Moon. And more terrifyingly, things went dark when the lights went out now.
It seemed like Moon responded. Sun slowly sunk to his knees, plucking the letters off the table. The first note had just asked if he was okay and still functional.
Yes. Don't worry about me.
The next was a little more sporadic, as Sun had slowly begun to panic as he wrote more letters to Moon. Sun, this time, had asked if Moon had cut him off.
Yes, I did. This is for your own good, trust me.
Sun's rays retracted an inch. How could this be good? He couldn't hear his counterpart, he couldn't see anything while Moon was out. It was like being knocked unconscious and forced back awake in terrifying intervals. He knew he shouldn't be worried... but if Moon had cut him off, could he be hiding what he did while he was out? What if he hurt you, and Sun couldn't do anything about it!?
He snatched up a red crayon, rolling it in his palm for a moment. His chest heaved, metaphorically. He hunched over the table, scribbling a response on another piece of paper.
"Good? How is this good!? I can't see what you're doing anymore! Why did you cut me off!?" He paused, dropping the crayon as he sunk his face in his hands. What was he going to do?
It hadn't been easy to pretend, for either of them. You were already filling the two in on activites that took place while their counterpart was out But even then, you had no idea they weren't able to talk anymore. Their time to see you had never been truly limited, being able to see through each other's eyes. It was the only thing Moon had lost by doing this, other than a comforting voice. He was beginning to regret his decision.
Sun cried for a while. As long as an hour, because when Moon switched out he found his head in his hands. His heart sank... A crease formed between his brows when he found Sun's note before him. Reaching out, he pulled it closer to his glowing, red gaze.
He frowned, slowly pressing the page to the table to respond. He had to think. He really did feel bad, but he couldn't let his counterpart get infected by whatever was messing with his head. He almost broke the blue crayon as he slowly, carefully wrote a response. Sun's bubbly handwriting hadn't changed in style, no matter how upset he was. So, Moon decided to try and keep his neat and calm too.
"This is about what they found. Something's wrong with me, Sun. I can't let it hurt you, too. This is for your own good." Despite his 'neat and calm' demeanor, he left a rough underline to that last sentence, trying his best to gently emphasize not to argue with him. He was already feeling regret, but he couldn't go back now. He didn't have a choice, he needed to keep Sun safe.
Sighing, Moon lifted himself off their bedroom floor. He took off through the tunnel, making his way to the balcony. His eyes glided down across the dark daycare... Things weren't going to get better, not until he could get fixed. Calling his tether, he took off to make his survey of the plex.
Sun huddled his knees to his chest. He hated the dark, he really, really hated the dark. "Why!? Why is THIS what you chose to do!?" He sobbed into the padded fabric of his pants. He had returned to the light of the daycare, finding himself in the far corner of the jungle gym... Where Moon had almost hurt you just a few nights ago.
After crying for a few more moments, Sun finally pushed his back up the wall. He refused to look at the claw marks. He knew they were there, but he wished he didn't. He lazily called his tether before dragging himself up to their room. His rays were retracted an inch and didn't sway. He slinked his scrawny body through the tunnel, snatching up Moon's reply off the table. Both excited and anxious to read it.
