cw: mentions of blood, violence, and death

Check couldn't stop you if he tried.

You threw yourself forwards, taking huge strides across the daycare towards Sun. He climbed out of the pit, but never ran towards you. But he didn't falter in picking you up when you threw your arms around him "SUNNY! OH THANK GOODNESS YOU'RE OKAY!"

"S-Sunshine... Sunshine you're back...!" He sounded almost winded.

"Of course I'm back, of course I'm back." He set you down, kneeling as you took his faceplate in your hands. "I fought to come back the second I woke up... Everyone and their brother was keeping me from it." Check decided to busy himself with stuff on the security desk.

You expected Sun to grab you up again... or even touch you at all. But he didn't. He sat eerily still with his face in your hands. Your eyes panned down. Oh god.

Sun was filthy... Covered in dust and ick. His clothes were stained from spills during his frantic cleanings, and his ribbons were fraying at the ends. "Sunny..."

"A-Ah... Sorry S-Sunshine... I didn't uhm... we haven't..." He brought his hands up to fidget. You let go of his face, and he looked down and away. He was as nervous as his first day with you.

"No one's washed you..." You finished the sentence for him. "It hasn't been that long... What happened?" You looked around. The entire daycare was utterly spotless.

"Th-They closed the d-daycare, Sunshine.." Sun's voice was uncharacteristically low. ... He seemed so mentally broken. "So I-I've been working very, very, very hard t-t-to keep things s-spotless in here!" He nodded slowly, as if moving too harshly would scare you away.

"I-I thought if I made everything p-perfect they might open it again!" You imagined his eyes finally meeting yours again... this was still a skill you hadn't lost. "Sun... It's okay."

"Please... J-Just.." You gulped down a sob, "Just hug me... I'm here now, I'm back." Sun moved so slowly you almost broke in half. He wrapped his arms around you, gently pressing his face into your shoulder.

"You're back... I-I'm so glad to see you're getting better...!" He snuggled his face into your sweater, and you squeezed him as tight as you could. You'd missed his metallic feel... It'd be uncomfortable if it wasn't him.

But it was Sun... Really, really Sun.

"Trust me... I would've come wondering back with a hole in my face if they let me." You giggled, and Sun seemed to ease gently. He pulled his face away, looking up at yours.

"Really...? You wanted to come see us that badly?"

"Of course I did." Your voice cracked with urgency.

"Then... Th-Then we'll be okay r-r-right?" He fought against the horrendous hope bubbling in his voicebox, the hope of living. "W-We aren't going to get decommissioned?"

"No!" He flinched when your voice raised, you faltered and dropped to your knees. "No... I'm not going to let them decommission you over this. Sure... Thing's were really scary. And of course I'm beyond pissed about it..." Sun didn't correct your swear... he really was broken.

"But it's not your fault. I'll fight for you day in and day out... You're not guilty." You brought your hand out, taking Sun's into yours. He was so quiet... it was so sad. "Thing's must've been so terrible when you came to... What happened?"

Sun couldn't meet your eyes, looking off towards Check. "I came to and you weren't there... I was in a room full of scary men asking me questions. I-I freaked out and tried to get up, I was strapped down and they were shining lights at me. I-I didn't know what happened. I-I was... scared."
