"Look, it's easier now. We're going downhill. You just gotta keep walking," Sean continued to encourage us, and I didn't say anything but I was in so much pain. I had been too afraid to say anything. I didn't like how much he worried about me yesterday.

I've been falling behind the other two, doing my best to stay caught up. Walking never seems like it's that hard, but I felt like I was ten thousand pounds. Not because I thought my actual weight had shifted, but because the exhaustion had settled into my bones.

Last night was rough for all of us. Daniel woke us up and I ended up awake by five in the morning. Sean and Daniel weren't up until almost nine or so.

"Oh yeah, that's better. Hey! Maybe we'll find a milkshake shop!" Daniel said, seeming chipper as he was yesterday.

"That's good-- I'm glad that he's still doing okay."

"Ah, yes! The forest secret milkshake factory! Keep dreaming, dude," Sean jokingly nudged Daniel. "Let's walk a little more. There'll be a rest stop or something where we can buy food. I'm sure of it."

My ears began ringing as my vision began to obscure. I noticed, but it's almost like my brain hadn't processed it. All I could do was keep walking.

I couldn't even hear the birds anymore or the leaves crunching under my feet.

I opened my mouth to say something, but my legs gave up on me.

"(Y/N)!" I could faintly see Sean and Daniel looking at me before Sean sprinted in my direction.

The ringing in my ears was unbearably loud yet everything around me was muffled. I couldn't hear anything else.

Sean's POV

"You did stand up for me with Brett. For a change."

"He had it coming."

Daniel and I had gotten carried away chatting, which was probably a good thing. It distracted both of us from the walk and made the time pass by a little faster.

"Yeah. I kinda wish you weren't so mean all the time," He said to me.

"I'm sorry, Daniel. I'm trying. (Y/N) tells me the same thing."

I hadn't heard a single word from (Y/N) in over an hour, and as the terrible boyfriend I am, I forgot she was even here. "Holy shit! (Y/N)!"

I turned to look at her and was taken back, almost scared, by what I was looking at.

(Y/N) looked to be almost in a zombie-like state. Her face was paler than this morning and her under-eyes were purple.

She looked miserable.

Her eyes closed and she stopped walking and seeing that kind of behavior during track practices and events, I ran toward her because I knew she was gonna black out.

I missed the catch but pushed her into the dirt, rather than the pavement of the road.

"Shit! Shit, Daniel, take her case off of her."

Daniel did as I said and I started looking her over, making sure she was still, you know, ALIVE.

I watched her look around, confused, and clearly not all there. This poor girl was fighting with every step, and I didn't even notice.
