"We made it, Daniel. It's been a long time since I was here," Sean said as I began looking myself over. Sean told me about Claire on the walk here and apparently, she's super into being clean, which we were not clean... at all.

I didn't want to watch Sean's grandmother pick up a leaf I brought into the house because I didn't look myself over.

I tipped my head up and ran fingers through my hair, shaking out any snow or dirt I may not have noticed. When I did, I noticed the sky above.

The stars would be so pretty if I wasn't so anxious. In Seattle, I didn't get to see them much due to all of the light pollution that littered the night.

"When was that?" Daniel asked as we took the step up, approaching the door.

"Before you were born."

We made it to the front door when Sean looked over at Daniel, "Come here, let me check you out. Claire likes everything super clean. Dad said she got pissed because he let me bring a snowball in the house," Sean moved over to me and began looking me over.

My heart was racing fast and it was hard to think straight. Not being able to know what was ahead of us was already hard enough. Now when we are in a time of need, knowing we only have one other option other than getting help... It was making me incredibly uncomfortable.

"Depending on Sean is hard enough. Now I have to ask for help from someone I've never even met."

"I know it's not even me asking, but tell that to the large lump in my throat."

I began counting by moving my lips, but not actually speaking.

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight..."

My nerves were running high. I didn't want to have to explain myself to them. I didn't want to explain to strangers why I needed their help and that I was having their great grandchild.

It's not like I disliked them before I got to know them. The problem was I didn't want them to dislike me before getting to know me. It was just about expectations.

"What if they went on vacation or something?" Daniel asked, grabbing my hand.

His sudden touch made me jump, which he noticed, but seemed to not say anything. I normally wasn't the type, but a hug from Daniel right then probably would've helped.

"We'll figure out something."

"What if they reject them because of me exclusively?!"

I took another breath as my stomach started rolling.

"Nineteen! Twenty! Twenty-One! Twenty-Two—"

The sound of them hitting the doorbell made me jump almost out of my shoes.

The light from inside the house turned on, and an older woman opened the door, "I'm sorry, we don't want any—" She stopped when she saw Sean's face.

"Hello, Claire."

"Sean? Oh my! Is that Daniel? And who's this?" She seemed happier than I expected. "You must be Sean's girlfriend! You're so beautiful!"
