My precious plush has left me. I didn't pay attention while I was walking through the streets of New York. Invited by some friends for a slumber party, my little friend had to come along. It was a small turtle, a little worn out but it means a lot to me. It kept me company through the good and bad times, so you can imagine how I felt as I lost it.
Falling to the ground, my turtle fell out of my backpack.
I had no choice but to watch him swim into the open manhole. Looking back to my scratched knee, I didn't see the lid close. Frustrated, my only option was to walk on, leaving my precious bean behind.
Underneath me was another situation going on.
A bunch of mutant turtles were about to climb up to the surface. Raph the snapping turtle wanted to get another new teddy bear for his collection. Apparently, there are some limited editions on bears in wrestling outfit. The minute he heard that one is dressed as his famous wrestler, he couldn't contain himself. Grabbing his wallet, he grabbed his brothers and off they go. Unlike the others, he was excited to get a plushie.
That is as my little turtle fell on his head. Moving off him, his little brother Mikey grabbed it, "Awww, its so cute!" Raph looked down to him, only to hear me yell after my precious turtle from above. His other brothers, Leo and Donnie, looked at each other puzzled. Raph grabbed on the manhole and closed it. He didn't want this human to see them, trying ot open the lid.
Raph heard how she sobbed after that plush, he reached for his little brother, "Mikey, we have to give it back."
"What? No!"
"Mikey, it is her turtle."
"But...it's so cute..." his lips wobbled, as he held the little plush up to his big brother. Donnie wanted to protest as it was my own fault of losing the turtle, but Raph beats him to it, "would you give someone your tech because you lost it?!"
His sour looks on purples face made it clear. Leo finds it sweet that they wanted to help, but they had one problem, "How are we supposed to find the owner?" According to the voice, they knew I am a girl, btu my appearance is still unknown. For Donnie a moment to shine, "This area contains cameras from the supermarket, if I can hack int the system we might be able to track her down...sorry if it sounded like sarcasm, it wasn't, I am in."
They had to slap Leo and Mikey for their laughter, as I fell over.
Unlike these two, Donatello noticed something as they changed the angle of the camera, "She went into that building, pressing the third button at the top." An easy assignment for the turtle boys. They climbed out of the sewers and checked the button. Mikey climbed up and checked through the windows if he might spot me.
And he sure did.
I sat on the couch crying. My friend gave me a hot coco, offering me to order a new plush on the internet...making me cry louder. Mikey's lips turned to a sad look. Back with his brothers, he grabbed the plush, "She misses you." Raph hugged his little brother for support, "You do the right thing."
Back at the window, he looked around to find another way inside. Around the corner, there was one open, allowing him to enter through the bedroom. "This is way too easy" he sang amused, placing the turtle on the bed...as he heard something growl. Staring at his stomach, he couldn't recall that he skipped a meal.
The growl got louder, and the direction changed.
Looking from behind he saw a huge dog. He jumped towards the turtle boy, that Mikey had no time to dodge as quick, instead he just hid his head inside his shell. If it just let him go, his head popped out and was close to scream out. That dog took the plush.
"Give it back" he whispered holding on to the turtle plush.
The dog pulled and threw his head around, not daring to give it back. My poor plush was too old ot survive this, as the threats were giving up. Mikey panicked, grabbing on the shell instead of the feet. No avail, the patterns on the shell are losing their power, ripping apart.
My friend's dog knocked over a vase with his tail, getting our attention.
You can imagine how irritated we were to see a human turtle in the corner, scared by that large dog. My plush was torn apart and spread across the room. My friend held her dog back and pulled him out the room, while I stepped towards the turtle boy, kneeling in front of him.
"Are you ok?"
His eyes were tearing up, "Hmm"
His attention went up to my face, seeing it frown at the killed plushie.
"I am sorry."
Looking at at him confused, "What for?"
"I tried to give it back, but that dog didn't give it back."
Mikey helped me collect the pieces, realizing that there was no chance to fix it. Throwing it all into the bin, I looked back to the turtle boy, "Thank you for trying."
Still sad, I was taken back by him. He stepped over and held me in his arms. Assuming that it will not last for long, it turned into an hour. Mikey lied beside me in bed, cuddling until I fell asleep. I know I should be scared by this, but this guy was really nice to me, that I couldn't see any reason not to trust him.
While his brothers were fed up waiting. They got up to the door, only to be hunted by my friend's dog. He was on a leash, but his strength was too much for her to handle, running after him while he chased the turtles. Don't get me wrong, dogs need their walks, but at this point, it was at the wrong time...at the wrong place. Mikey and I didn't hear it all, as we fell asleep peacefully. Eversince then, I haven't seen him again.
Two days later, a box arrived at my friend's place. It was addressed to 'the plushie owner'. Inside were four plushies from turtles in different colors and bandanas. One looked like the orange boy from that night, but who are the other three?
The night before, the sewers was deadly quiet...well almost...
"Ouch!"
"You ok Leo?"
He sucked on his thumb, looking frustrated, "Why do we have to do this?"
"Raph's orders, it is a good deed"
Frustrated, Donnie and Leo moaned. Purple hates sewing and blue finds it boring...
"Ow!"
...and painful.
But Mikey was far from it, smiling with joy, "I am sure she is going to love her new turtles." He took all his passion into his soft toy, "She will be so happy ~".
Leo was close to throw his version acros the room, "Isn't one enough?"
For Raph, who was deeply focused, was this an important lesson, "Stop whining Leo, start sewing. Take it as a lesson to learn how to focus."
That is how I got the for different types of turtles plushies, they even sew their names on them. Although the quality was different for the other, I came to love them all and couldn't bare to part with them.
For Splinter was this an unusual sight, watching his sons sew plushies. Raph lectured his brothers how they have to learn to take responsibility and every good deed will make them the heroes they wanted to be.
Their father looked surprised, eyeing the plushies "Should I be concerned about this?"
Donnie shrugged, "I don't know what you mean?"
Mikey grinned wide, "they are for someone special".
His brothers nodded in agreement as it went back to this awkward silence.
Their father left them alone, only to check on them occasionally...in fear...he might become a granddad.
