Katie

"BREAK THE DOOR DOWN!!!!" "WHAT KIND OF HELL-BOUND POWER DO YOU THINK I'VE GOT, YOU LITTLE PIECE OF CRAP??!?!??!"

Amber and I are screaming back and forth at each other.

"I DON'T KNOW, JUST FIGURE IT OUT!"

I'm pacing back and forth in a panic.

"SHE'S GOING TO FIND US IF WE DON'T GET OUT OF HERE!"

Amber slumps against the door with this scared, yet accepting face on. "It's no use, Katie." She mutters. "This door is practically dead-bolted."

"AND WHAT DO WE DO IF IT'S DEAD-BOLTED?!?!?" I yell at her. "WE GRAB THE FREAKING SCREWDRIVER, DO WE NOT?!?!?"

Amber looks up at me, her eyes widened in shock. She looks down, a sad look on her face.

"S-sorry." I mutter quietly. "I just got a little stressed out." "I can tell," Amber says as she begins to stand up. "You're always so confident."

She starts jiggling the doorknob, but it doesn't budge. "Dang it," She hisses under her breath. "Okay. New plan." I begin and Amber turns around to look at me, her right hand still on the doorknob.

"We need to find someplace to hide."

I scan the room and then I return my gaze back to Amber. "You knew a shortcut to here, right? Would you happen to know any places we could hide?"

"Y-yeah, I guess." Amber dusts off her skirt and starts pacing around the office.

"If there's one thing I know, back here is a special lounge for Mrs. Catherine specifically. No one else is allowed back here; not even Mr. Wagner."

Amber places her hand on a door behind Mrs. Catherine's desk and pats the door. "I bet there are some good spots in there."

"Huh. I didn't see that door there." I say as I walk up to the door. "Let's see what's inside!!" She says excitedly and she twists the doorknob as quick as she can and pulls. It doesn't budge, causing her to nearly fall back.

"OKAY, take two," She shouts with persistence. She pushes the door as she twists the lock. No movement. "Aight. I've got nothing."

She sits down beside the door.

"Got any backup ideas?" I shake my head and she sighs.

"We're going to die," Amber mutters under her breath as she curls into a little ball. "Don't give up now!" I jump up and extend my arm to her with a smile.

"We can do this! This will not be our last night; I won't allow it!!" Amber looks up at me with wide, tear-filled eyes and just stares at me for a moment. It's almost as if she just has no clue how to react.

She sits there for a moment, clearly thinking.

Slowly, and somewhat reluctantly, she lifts up her hand and grabs mine. Amber gives me this innocent smile. I can tell by her smile that she's nervous, though.

"That's the spirit," I grin. "We're going to figure out how to get out of here alive no matter the cost!"

She gives me this 'girl is you crazy' look but then she shrugs it off and pulls herself up with my help.

"Have you forgotten windows exist?" I ask her as I point nonchalantly at the giant blinded window by Mrs. Catherine's desk.

"Embarrassingly, yeah." Amber gives me this embarrassed little smile. "It's okay," I say. "I forget lots of things exist if they're not in front of me."
