The problem.
I already struggle at what I do, and now I've experienced a setback. I wonder if this is worth it anymore.
The Zen understanding.
For a Zen Buddhist, the goal is the journey. Therefore, a setback is not truly a setback; it's merely another way forward. When a Zen Buddhist experiences a "setback," they take the opportunity to see the world anew, see their situation anew, and remain steadfast in their ultimate goal to find peace of mind for themselves and others.
The Zen application.
So, if one's work is important to begin with, it shouldn't matter if the road takes a fork. That road remains the road, and it never goes away, even if you want it to. A Zen Buddhist might change tactic or how they think, but wherever they go, they always move forward with positivity and lovingkidness.
Realizing that all life is conditional, a Zen Buddhist knows not to fear conditions. When hit with a "setback," a Zen Buddhist stays calm and steers further into the vast, beautiful ocean.
