"Have you ever wanted to cry but
No tears came out so you just
Stare blankly into space
While feeling your heart break into pieces?"

I was woken up by a bang in the middle of the night. Surprised and scared, I went downstairs to see what it was. But when I reached downstairs, no one was there. The living room was completely dark and empty.

I would have gone back to bed and slept, but it would have been nothing if Samuel hadn't heard the same thing.

"Have you heard it, too?" we both asked at the same time, and we started to groan.

"Not the time!" We again said at the same time.

"You know what, Sam? I am turning the lights on," I said as I took the frying pan from the kitchen and went towards the button.

"You don't have to do this," he whispered, following me.

I sighed and replied, "I have to." Slowly, I went to the light switch and turned it on.

I know we were both being dramatic, but we really didn't care. We have watched too many horror movies, and paranoia can't not set in, no matter how terrified I usually am during the actual movie.

The minute I turned the lights on, everyone started screaming, "SURPRISE!"

I screamed as I hit the person in front of me, who just so happened to be Christian.

"Geez, woman," he said, holding onto his head in pain.

It was Karma, I guess.

"Sorry, Chris," I sheepishly said as I lowered the frying pan.

"The fuck was that for?" Samuel said as he came forward from behind my back, his hand holding the gun that was on his waistband.

"It's both of your birthday, silly!" Aunt Tessa said as she came forward and hugged us both. We both hugged her and said thank you at the same time, secretly glaring at each other.

"It was kind of funny, though," Rocco said as I and Samuel let go of the hug.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"You both talking simultaneously like you guys have some twin telepathy," he said, laughing. Samuel and I glared at them as all the adults chuckled but for some reason.

"Are you going to ignore that Ari just hit me with a frying pan? It hurts like hell!" Christian whined, still holding onto his head as I laughed.

"Yeah, we are," Alessio said. The rule is that no one can scold the birthday boy or girl unless really necessary."

"And it was self-defence, brother," I replied and shrugged as he glared at me before returning to his room, grumbling something.

So much for him being happy on my and Samuel's birthday.
