Amaya climbed the stairs to her room and threw her trunk on the floor. She didn't feel like unpacking.
Amaya spent the next month in her room. Nobody else was ever home other than the house elves who occasionally brought her food.
"Amaya, are you home?" Amaya heard her dad's voice call up the stairs. She quickly wiped tears off of her face and went down stairs.
"Hey dad."
"Hey sweetheart. Can we talk?" Amaya nodded and they went into the living room.
"I decided who you would be betrothed with but there have been some difficulties."
"Who is it?"
"It was going to be Sirius Black. You guys are friends right?" Amaya's breath caught.
"Yes. What do you mean, was?"
"He ran away from home and was disowned."
"What? Oh no." Amaya stood up about to leave the room.
"Where are you going?"
"I'll be back tonight. Don't worry about me."
"Amaya!" Amaya ran out the door.
'Where would Sirius go? Probably James' house.' Amaya thought and quickly made her way there.
She pounded on the door until a surprised James opened the door.
"Is Sirius here?" James nodded and let Amaya in.

He ran away. He had to. How was he supposed to survive there? Of course Sirius never expected to be disowned. He didn't like his family, but it still hurt. He shouldn't care, but he did.
Sirius sat in the guest room at James' and just stared at the wall. He heard the door open, but ignored it assuming it was James trying to get him to talk. He felt arms wrap around him and he breathed in a familiar scent. It smelled like roses.
"Oh Sirius, I'm so sorry." Sirius felt a lump in his throat.
"Maya?" His voice was scratchy.
"It's okay, I'm here." Sirius wrapped his arms around her and for the first time in days he cried.
After Sirius had stopped crying he pulled back and looked into her eyes. She gave him a warm smile.
"Can we talk?" She asked.
"I'm not like my family." he said and she believed him.
"I know. Do you want to talk about why you ran away?" He nodded in response and they sat on the bed.
"I couldn't stay there Amaya. All my mum could talk about was how disappointed she was in me. She seemed to want me to leave. She used the cruciatus curse on me. It hurt so bad. She disowned me. I shouldn't care but I do. I'm still her son. She should still at least care. I shouldn't have left Regulus there. I should have made him come." Sirius looked about ready to cry again. "I don't want to go back."
"I know. Don't worry Sirius, you'll never have to go back. You still have a family. James, Remus, Peter, and Me. We are your family and we love you. Regulus will be fine."
"Thank you." Sirius looked hesitant to ask something but decided to in the end. "Did you find out who you're getting betrothed to?"
"I don't know. It was going to be someone but..."
"Who? Who was it going to be?"
"You." Amaya whispered. Sirius' mouth shaped into the form of an oh.
"Did it change because I ran away?" Amaya nodded and looked at the ground. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything on the train. I admire you. You always have a smile no matter how hard things are."
"I shouldn't have said what I did either. You're right. I should talk to my dad. See if I can choose who I get to be with."
"Who do you-Never mind."

Amaya got back home late that night. She found her mum sitting up to the kitchen table drinking tea and looking worried. Her dad was pacing back and forth mumbling to himself.
"I'm home."
"Amaya!" Both of her parents ran over to her and tackled her in a hug. "Where have you been?"
"I went to a friend's house."
"You just stormed out when I told you about that boy being disowned."
"His family disowned him of course he needed comfort."
"You really care about him don't you?"
"Yes."
"If you could pick to be betrothed to one of the Black brothers, who would you pick?"
"Sirius, in a heartbeat."
"I'll have to think about it."
