A Vampire in Love

Chapter 5: Poison

Ajish was covered with blood stains. His face was covered with blood. He was running along with the stretcher which was rolling an unconscious Orya to the Emergency.

"Mr Jade, you cannot go any further" a nurse stopped Ajish while blocking his way with her hands.

A surge of anger brewed in his chest. For the first time in many years Ajish bared his fangs and choke slammed the nurse against the door behind which Orya has just disappeared and he was supposedly not to pass.

"Mr. Jade"

"Ajish"

"Come back to your senses"

"Mr. Jade"

Soon many hands were pulling Ajish away from the poor nurse who had started turning red. After a few seconds the nurse fell down on the floor coughing and spitting.

" Mr. Jade, please, we need to keep our cool here...please calm down...please...Orya needs you" Ajish saw Ari holding his shoulder while Rai was holding him back. Orya's name worked for him. Ajish sat down on a chair still breathing heavy.

"Mr. Jade, w-we ne-e-need you t-to si–gn on thes-ees papers" stammered a young doctor holding out a paper in a folder.

Ajish stood up and looked into the doctor's eye. " Make sure my Orya comes out of that room alive and fine or else...." The doctor backed off...

Ajish dropped himself in a metal chair. He buried his face in his hands and rested his elbow on his knees.

After a while, his head jolted up and he started walking towards Ari.

Ari stood up as soon as she saw Ajish walking towards her.

"Tell me everything. What happened?" He asked with a fierce expression.

Ari was looking very disturbed. Her eyes were red from sobbing. She was shaking yet trying to maintain her composure.

"I...I..I just went ...we..we..." she was stammering....

"ARI" bellowed Ajish..

Ari flinched and took a step back.

"I..we went to the t..t..terrace. Ss.she wanted ...I brought....din.dinner" She was failing every moment. Her knees were giving in. Rai rushed towards her and held her steady..

"I took your c..call. I went o..out...n..n..network..." she gulped..hyperventilating..

"When I c..c..came b..back...I saw her t..toppling over the railing" she whispered the last part, closing her eyes as tears started pouring out..

Ajish's expression was blank. He was loosing control.

The silence of the hall was interrupted by sharp footsteps. The doctor along with a few from his team were walking towards them. Ajish did not like the expressions they were wearing - worry, concern, fright, scare, horror...

"Mr. Jade, I would like to have a word with you about Ms. Orya Fye Jade" the doctor said.

"Yes"

"We were able to stop the bleeding and stabilize her condition. Her condition is improving as we speak" He paused but continued after a second "We have found high concentration of Pilophin in her blood which has caused her to pass into a near coma state" he concluded.

"What? What is Pilophin?" Ajish asked tilting his head and knitting his brows.

"Pilophin is a substance that is found in the bark of Wilder Bane tree. Although it is used in a lot of medical drugs, it is a component of Blood Tonic. As you know Blood tonic is a mild beverage for vampires but it can impair the senses of a human for a few hours. But in this case, it cannot be Blood Tonic as it is clear case of overdose. A few pints of Blood Tonic can not cause an overdose" The doctor was satisfied with his explanation.

Ajish was deep in thoughts..

"Are you telling me she was poisoned?" Ajish at last turned to the doctor.

The doctor had a blank look on his face. He was not quite sure how to respond to that without getting hurt.

Ajish did not need the answer for his question. He pulled his phone to his ears.

" Mr. Prime Minister, I need you to launch an immediate investigation at the scene. Nobody will leave or enter the hall till the investigation is over" He had a steely edge in his voice. "I want to know every details, this time its more than your chair that is on stake Mr. Prime Minister."

Whoever has tried to harm his Orya will beg for mercy, will beg for life, will beg for death yet death will be last thing he will get.
