Chapter 27: Mine Too

The dawn broke into the horizon when Adya came back to her room. She was deep in thought while she sat at the edge of her bed.

Her mate has gone through such ordeal... such pain.

He has fought the world to make it a better place.

He has lost family and loved ones.

He has lost so much...

But does that justify all the pain that he has infested upon her?

Does that justify his ignorance to understand the truth before punishing her?

She is his mate. He is supposed to cherish her but didn't he reject her?

Can't he do all this again?

Adya felt conflicted. Although she has agreed to the date, she is still not sure how to respond to his love. She felt deeply for him but isn't it what the bond is supposed to do?

She sighed in frustration. A faint knock on the door brought her back to reality.

"Yes?"

"Rai here. Can I come in?" came a voice.

Adya opened the door and stepped back to let Rai in. He sat on the couch and gestured for her to sit beside him. She did.

"Are you still mad at me?" He asked.

"Yes"

"I am sorry Adya." He apologized "I was not allowed"

"Why?" Adya was shocked at this new piece of information.

"Adya, you have to understand. You are marked, not mated. He will not allow anyone around you." Rai tried explaining.

"He doesn't trust me?" Adya was hurt.

"No Adya, he cannot help it. It's his instinct." Rai explained again.

"But I am his mate. Will he ever trust me? Are we not in this situation because he did not trust me in the past?" Adya stressed.

Rai sighed and turned towards her. He scooted a bit towards her and held her shoulders.

"Adya your relationship with Ajish is very vulnerable right now. There is a lot of uncertainty, a lot of pain, regret, and everything that should not be a part of a relationship. Above all, you both are not mated yet. It is only natural for a vampire to act protective and possessive." Rai explained. When he did not get any reply he continued.

"Vampires usually mate before marking. This is the first case ever where a vampire has marked before mating. He loves you with all his heart. He trusts you with all his faith but this is his natural instinct"

"Love? Really? Don't you remember what he did?" Adya mocked. She had tears in her eyes.

"I do. Nobody will know better than him and I. But he regrets and repents. Can't you see?" Irritation was evident in Rai's voice.

"Right I forgot you are on his side," Adya said with an expression of accusation.

"Adya, don't say that. You both are on the same side." Rai cupped her face. "Please give us a chance. He loves you, and I love you". Adya could see pain and love in Rai's eyes. She was confused by his confession of love. But before she could say anything further, Rai was lifted in the air and slammed onto the floor. A shrill scream escaped her lips.

"Kneel" Ajish's voice boomed.

Adya opened her eyes to witness a blazing Ajish standing in front of a kneeled Rai. The floor had a huge crack where Rai was hit.

"Why did you come here? Why did you defy my orders?" He bellowed while a broken Rai kneeled in front of him. Rai kept quiet. His silence fueled Ajish's rage. His fingers curled around Rai's throat and he was lifted in the air the next second.

"Do you love her?" Ajish asked him in a very calm voice. Too calm.

"Mr. Jade..." Adya tried to intervene. Her eyes were brimming with tears of panic. Ajish turned towards her. Rai was still struggling in his grip.

"Do you love Rai?" He asked Adya with the same cold and calm voice.

Adya was taken aback. The question caught her off guard. She felt hurt, almost betrayed. Again.

"Mr. Jade put him down." She pleaded. "Please, he will die".

Her concern for Rai burned Ajish from the inside out. Adya's eyes were terrified. She tried to tug on Ajish's arms to make him put Rai down. But who was she kidding?

"Put him down...please ...please ....he will die...please" she pleaded again. Rai's eyes appeared bulged.

With a thud, Rai was dropped on the floor. Adya immediately wrapped her arms around him. She was sobbing frantically.

"A..A..Are... you a..a...alright?" Adya asked a coughing Rai.

Rai just gave her a mellow smile. He lifted his head towards Ajish.

"I cannot stay away from her, for the same reason you cannot stay away from her," He said.

Adya was confused. Does she have two mates? Is it possible? No ...no...she cannot have two. Did she feel anything for Rai? She tried to search for the bond. Nothing.

"I am her guard" came Rai's clear voice. Rai rolled up his sleeves to reveal a mark. The same as Adya's. But instead of golden it was red.

Adya eyes shot at Ajish. He was still towering over both of them. He bent down and grabbed her arms, tearing her away from Rai. Rai had a smirk on his lips.

"She is mine too," He said.
