Sonic One Shots

The change was so subtle, Amy almost didn't notice it.

The world rejoiced when the Hero of Mobius was found and brought back home. The war continued to rage on but ended soon after he, his Classic lookalike and the Rookie took out Infinite and Eggman.

He seemed like himself, more or less. He was still the happy-go-lucky Mobian, still fought with a grin and snarky comments - she could only guess now that they were his confidence facade. He seemed so much like himself, and the heroes where so busy welcoming him back and protecting the world, that no one bothered to ask him what had happened during those few months.

However, as time went on, Amy began to notice things that had changed about the blue hero. Of course, not seeing someone for six months could bring on changes away, but these were different. They were minor things, sometimes even things that she thought were just her imagination, but she was sure she was the first to notice.

For one, Sonic went out during the night more often.

Throughout the day, he seemed normal, chatting away to everyone and laughing among his friends, but at night, he seemed much more quiet and reserved. It reminded her of how Shadow was. She was in the control room of the resistance one evening when she first saw a brisk streak of blue, followed by the quiet sound of the front door opening and shutting.

It was almost like he didn't want to alert anyone of his disappearance.

She knew no one else had a blue streak like that, however, she waited until he returned. Part of him looked shocked to see her as she confronted him on his return. He simply grinned his charming smirk, mentioning something about getting a breath of fresh air and that his legs had cramped.

Seemed normal enough for the blue hedgehog despite the visible tension in his athletic form.

The next was something more peculiar. Sonic never flinched. Not when he was threatened by a rival, not even when Knuckles would raise his fist in mock anger. But Amy knew that Jayde and Shadow had noticed the subtle flinch that Sonic made when the Ultimate Lifeform raised his hand to shove blue quills out of his face as Sonic teased him. It was a small reaction, something that people who didn't know Sonic wouldn't think much of. However, the slight sharpening of his quills and clench of his fists said otherwise. He laughed it off nervously and walked out of the room when Shadow had questioned him, leaving both Amy and Jayde to share a glance.

And the final piece of evidence had come from Tails.

The young fox didn't know who else to turn to when he found himself in Sonic's hold as he woke, whimpering when he tried to move away. Sonic seemed to keep him close, holding him almost protectively, as if something was going to take the twin tailed fox from him.

Since the days Sonic got beaten by Infinite, Tails had suffered his fair share of nightmares. She remembered hearing screaming one night before she rushed into his room, wrapped him in her arms and told him he was safe. So, naturally, Amy was his first source of help. He told her to watch the security cameras, and they found the blue blur walking through the halls and into his room. But he wasn't just walking.

He was sleep walking.

He didn't wake from his glazed state, eyes tired and unfocused before he would curl around Tails, muttering that the fox 'was safe now', as if the resistance base wasn't. Sonic, however, was unaware until he woke and didn't remember a thing.

Amy felt a sense of guilt. No one had even bothered to ask if he was okay. She sometimes forgot how good of an actor the blue hedgehog could be. He would fake his attitude and show people what they wanted to see so they didn't question his strange behaviour. And now, she lay awake in her own bed, staring blankly at the wall, thinking about what to do. She knew that Sonic would deny anything and run away the first chance he got. He didn't like people worrying about him since 'he was the hero'.
