(A/N: a second part to the previous story, more from Sonic's POV. There are some sonamy moments at the end. While writing this part, I listened to How Do You Feel? by The Maine - I recommend! Hope you enjoy!)

It irritated him that his runs had become ineffective.

They used to be his only source of escape before, but since being free from Eggman, no amount of running could help him escape his mind. Sometimes his feet even stumbled when he thought of his ankles, chained and raw.

He was lucky he recovered quickly.

If he had come home with any bruise on him the others would've commented on it and asked him questions even he wouldn't know the answer to. At times, he hardly knew if those chains were real or not. The jackal sure had a fun time tormenting his mind.

Glad to see I left an impression.

Sonic swallowed, ears pinning back against his forehead, feet moving faster as he tried to escape his nightmares. Of course, he left an impression. He just didn't want anyone knowing that he did. What good was a hero that feared his enemy?

He hated that Amy could figure him out so easily.

Since the day she and Tails found him under the young fox's bed, she'd made sure he was always okay. It wasn't a constant thing. It was comforting. The small smile every so often, the casual conversation that made him forget those six months for a while, those jade eyes that lingered on him a little longer than everyone else, waiting for him to give her a nod confirming he was okay.

He still hadn't spoken to her about anything, and she hadn't forced anything out of him. Sonic didn't even know where he would begin. In his head, it was all a jumbled mess of illusions, and robots, and fake copies of his old enemies. The ones that stood out the most where the ones about his friends.

He shuddered, slowing his footsteps as he returned to base, carefully shutting the gate with a soft click rather than the usual clang.

We shall see what those friends of yours are worth when I turn the Phantom Ruby against them.

He shook his head, swallowing thickly. Please, not now. With runs being ineffective, he didn't know what to do. The base never felt claustrophobic, but it suddenly seemed a lot smaller than it was.

You're weak, rodent. And your friends are weaker. They won't last long without their precious hero to save them. How pathetic.

Ears pinned back, he stumbled around the halls, holding a hand out to lean against the wall. Why was it like this? He was supposed to be the hero. This wasn't supposed to happen like this. He should be able to get back up with ease, he didn't need anyone to help him because he was fine. These were just childish nightmares.

And what of that pink hedgehog? I assume she is of importance.

It felt like those cuff were wrapped around his wrists again as he tugged, feeling his heart hammering against his chest. He could remember the jackal chuckling like he'd gotten everything figured out. Sonic's growl was only a positive sign to him.

Very well. She'll be treated with... extra care.

He remembered something snapping inside him. Something broke through that day. His chains were slung against the far wall, his raw, inborn strength tearing them apart. His hands had wrapped around the jackals neck and it was the first time he imagined blood on his hands.

The jackal had only smirked, gripping the hero's wrists before an energy surge had rushed through him, a cry leaving his dry throat. He was shoved back, tripping over his feet and curling into a ball on the floor. Fingers clasped ears painfully as he heard the cries and pleas of his friends, Amy's voice seeming to be the loudest. He could hear himself screaming, but it was muffled into the floor, body shaking.

The tears were ready to fall as he found himself standing outside of the pink hedgehog's room. His heart was pounding, and he didn't know whether to knock or not. Going for the latter, he twisted the handle and quietly stepped inside. The room darkened as the door shut and his breathing seemed ten times louder in hear.

Was this what panicking felt like?

He gripped his chest, eyes wide and darting through the black. He thought he was going to get lost in his mind again until a voice broke him free.

"Sonic?"

A small lamp was turned on and Amy allowed herself to take in the form of her blue hero. Shaking, panting, tears threatening to fall.

She smiled worriedly, "Come here, Blue."

Sonic didn't even focus his legs on moving as he walked to her, simply staring at her stretched out hand. He wanted to cry even more because she was there, she was safe and she was being so kind. He choked as she pulled him carefully into her arms. He could feel her rocking him as he grabbed hold of her night shirt, wetting the fabric with his free flowing tears.

He couldn't stop his voice, "I-I thought he h-hurt you."

His words were shaky and uncertain, wrapping his arms tightly around her slim waist, "He sh-showed me illusions... a-and I was afraid he... I thought he... I wanted to..." His words got caught and Amy gently shushed him, running her fingers through his large quills.

"I'm here." she told him softly, shifting so she sat with her legs around him as well. She held him close, slowly rocking as she tried to calm him.

He gripped her, "I love you, Amy."

She tensed in his hold but continued to comfort him. Those were not the words she expected him to say, nor did she think that the first time he would say them was when he was crying and seeking comfort. His grip was tight around her, but not too tight that it became painful, almost like he was afraid she would disappear if he let go.

Sonic pulled back, allowing her to see his red eyes and wet muzzle, "I-I'm sorry."

She frowned, "Why are you sorry?"

"That's probably n-not how you imagined me saying that." he mumbled, "B-But I don't want anything to happen. I... I want to tell you before... if something..."

He seemed to be getting worked up again, breathing increased but Amy quickly consoled him.

"Hey, calm down." she whispered, lifting his muzzle gently with her palm when he looked down, "It doesn't matter to me how you say it because it comes from you. But at the moment, I want to make sure you're okay before something else. You are the priority." her thumb wiped away a few tears, "I think you've had enough emotion for one day."

Sonic swallowed before leaning towards her, pressing a soft, hesitant kiss on her cheek, pulling back quickly, "But I mean it."

She smiled, giving him a soft chuckle, "I know you do." she reached up and rubbed his ear, listening to the soft purr that left him.

That night, Sonic fell asleep in her arms, sleeping all the way through without the disturbance of a bad dream. Any time he felt close to panicking, either tensing his frame or a stuttered breath, Amy would pull him closer, gently running her hands through his quills and whispering that he was safe.

"I love you, too, Blue."
