Before Ganon's Rise: 100 Years Ago

The legend of Zelda, Link, and Ganon had faded into obscurity known only by the oldest Zora and Sheikah. The Zonai were no more, though their ruins still stood crumbling in the forests of Faron. The Golden Goddesses were all but forgotten in time, as was Demise, and the only significant remnants of the Triforce were simply carvings in Hyrule Castle and the Temple of Time.

A new princess was brought into the world by the queen Zelda, and, as legend and tradition commanded, the child was also named Zelda, her father having been King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule. This princess had inherited the sealing power passed down through the generations of those with the blood of the Goddess.

However, there was also another birth, just one year before, of a swordsman named Link. Link was trained in the way of the sword by his father, who was a royal guard.

In Link's childhood, his father decided that he would be the greatest swordsman, and pushed Link beyond his limits to unlock his potential. Similar things happened with Zelda and her father, the King, who pushed her to unlock the sealing power hidden inside of her.

Link, however hard his father pushed him, also made friends- namely Princess Mipha of the Zora. Mipha was a kindhearted individual who had grown up knowing only the slippery platforms of Zora's domain. She was older than Link in years, but it seemed that they both shared similar developmental patterns, and so, as Link grew, Mipha grew slower. Many signs point to Mipha having a romantic entanglement with Link, one example being the Zora armour. (See Zora's Domain and Vah Ruta for more detail)

Zelda, as princess, had limited contact in her childhood, and only happened upon Urbosa, the leader of the gerudo, because her mother had been good friends with her. Zelda also was able to visit the library, and must have made acquaintances there as well, however this is not a primary mention in the lore.

Link also was somehow able to make acquaintance later in life with a goron by the name of Daruk. Daruk was the leader of the gorons, and he was very kind. How Link got to know him, I haven't a clue, as gorons live basically inside of a volcano.

Link's mother is not mentioned almost whatsoever in the game, however many speculate that she passed either in childbirth of Link's smaller sister, or by a sickness that is the equivalent of tuberculosis, which in-game is only cured by molduga guts.

Link's younger sister is also not mentioned in the canon game, however there is unused concept art which is reminiscent of Aryll, who was Link's sister from The Wind Waker.

Link's father is thought to be a noble man, and he was head of the Royal Guard. There is much variation in the theorized demeanour of this character, however many think him to be stern and unyielding, as he taught his son to be- the perfect warrior. Links father trained him to be the best in the castle from a very young age, and he could best grown men by the age of seven. However, Link kept getting stronger as he grew, right up until the age of sixteen.

Zelda's family story has been told many a time, and her mother and father were continuously mentioned throughout the game. Her mother, Queen Zelda, passed away somewhere in the training of Princess Zelda's sealing power, and her father, King Rhoam has been known to get on her case immensely, while pushing her to unlock the sealing power of old despite her lack of training due to her mother's decease. Zelda is- for lack of a more accurate word- salty about this.

Link, at age 16, became appointed guard of the Princess, after pulling the master sword from its pedestal,as the princess had been going out more. At this point, the princess was only 15, her sixteenth birthday being around the same time the next year. This means that Zelda was one of those sassy girl boss teens who are mean to everyone. Link, however undeserving of hate he was, got yelled at by Zelda frequently.

Zelda decided she would travel all the way to every corner of the continent to uncover the Divine Beasts- giant ancient mechanical structures that were meant to weaken Ganon. She would also be appointing Champions to pilot those divine beasts- and she already had some friends and political figures in mind. See, these champions had to be special, and she knew just the people...
