The picture is Alex!
After dismissing my class and taking the kids to the after school daycare program, I almost run to bus stop. I love my kids and all but I just want this weekend to relax and have some me time. As I'm walking down the block I'm stopped by this little voice calling to me,
"Hi Ms. Alice," I turn to see little Jasmine screaming out her car window. I smile and wave to her, somewhat surprised to see the car stop in front me.
"Hi sweety, what's up?" I ask.
"Daddy said that we can take you home," she chirped.
"Oh now sweetheart, I'm fine with-"
"Just get in," Cole said not allowing me to finish my sentence.
I thought about denying but this would allow me to get home faster. I sigh and open the front door sliding in sending an over excited Jasmine a smile.
"Thank you," I said sincerely.
"Don't mention it, but just know that we have to stop at the store just to get some things," Cole said.
I didn't mind so I just nodded my head and listened to Jasmine's story about the newest Barbie her dad had gotten her. We arrived fairly quickly and made our way into the huge Target. Cole lifted Jasmine up and placed her into the cart seat thing. As we made our way through the isles getting random stuff off the shelves, I had bumped into someone making them drop their items. Cole helped me picked them up while I apologized.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean too drop your items," when I had picked up as much as I could I looked up and was met with a very familiar pair of eyes which caused me to drop the items back onto the floor.
"Alice is that you?" he said, all I could do was look at him in shock.
why is he here?!
"Alex?" I whispered.
"That is you! You have no idea how long I've been looking for you! I moved here just to try to get you back. You look amazing, its been so long. I can't believe I finally found you," he just continued to ramble and I finally found my voice.
"You have no right," I felt tears welling up and took a breath to try to recompose myself. "You don't get to act like nothing happened. You can't be here, you have to pack up your things and go back home, your real home."
His look of happiness and joy was replaced with a cold, stern look, "You can't make that decision for me, if I want to stay then I will."
I gave him the dirtiest glare I could muster and turned to the silent Cole and Jasmine, "I'm sorry but I can't stay, I have to go but thank you."
I quickly walked past them and practically ran to the bus stop that was conveniently stopped. As soon as I was seated at the back of the bus I let the tears fall, I didn't even try to stop, I just let them fall freely. I made it home quickly and rushed up the stairs and collapsed onto my bed.
I couldn't stop the thoughts from racing through my head
why couldn't he just stay away?
he's just bringing up memories that I've kept hidden for years
I have to stay away from him and avoid him at all costs
Halfway through my inner battle the doorbell rang, I looked through the peep-hole and was relieved and surprised to see Cole.
"What are you doing?" I asked when I opened the door.
"You left pretty quickly and I just wanted to know if you were okay."
"Where's Jasmine?"
"I dropped her off with the babysitter, can I come in?"
I moved out of the way and walked to the living room, "Do you want anything to drink or maybe something to eat? I can make you something really quic-"
"Alice, shut up. I don't want anything, I only want to know whether or not your okay. You seemed pretty upset at the market after bumping into that guy."
I didn't say anything instead I threw my arms around him and he wrapped his arms around my waist as I cried into his chest. He brought us down to sit on the couch and he continued to hold me until my episode was done.
I pulled away and said, "I'm so sorry, I really don't know why I did that. You probably think that I'm this emotional, weak wom-" I was cut of by him pulling me into another embrace.
"I don't see you as weak just broken. I know your not ready to tell me anything yet but when you are I'm here to listen, and do you know why?" he asked while keeping eye contact with me.
"Why," I whispered suddenly unable to find my voice.
"Because I like you, I like you a lot," he confessed. My eyes widened in shock and I leap to the other side of the couch.
"As in like-like me?" I asked still unable to believe it.
He chuckled before saying, "Yes Alice, I like-like you."
"But you can't, you don't even know me. I can be a psycho for all you know!" I exclaimed nervously.
"I don't need to know you well enough to know that's there's an attraction between us. I understand that's it's really soon but I know what I'm feeling and I'm certain that you feel it too," he said.
I jumped up, grabbed his sleeve and pulled him up. I turned him around and started pushing him out the door, "You need to go, this was a long enough visit, I'm fine and thank you and goodbye," I rambled quickly and shut the door behind him.
This was not supposed to happen!
