It felt good to have someone to talk too and connect with. Ever since Alex I couldn't let myself trust another man again. He caused me so much pain and trouble I still have my doubts, although Cole has been making things a lot easier. I know I sound like a teenager in love, but I think that I am. It may seem really soon but.. I don't know, I can't explain this feeling. For some reason, these emotions don't allow me to form coherent thoughts.
I shake my head to try to stop thinking and pull my beanie down because it came up during my evening run. Sometimes I like to take runs to just clear my head and try to burn some calories because I eat way too much junk food for my own good. Don't let this fool you, I hate running. I hate it with a passion but at least I'm not stuck on my coach eating Hot Cheetos. One Dance by Drake came on causing me to increase the volume. I stopped running and began walking to control my breathing when all of a sudden I was being lifted in the air.
"What the fu-" I began but a hand was put over my mouth.
I was dragged further into an alley.
Why was I running near an alley!
This person was extremely strong and although I was thrashing and kicking their grip was still tight. The person threw me on the group and I banged my head against the concrete wall,
"Shit" I mumbled.
"Someone has quite the potty mouth, " as soon as I heard that voice I froze.
No....please not this again. Please let this be a dream.
I shut my eyes and prayed this wasn't real.
"Keep wishing darling but I'm really here, in the flesh. Alex, tie her hands. It seems as though she's quite the fighter."
"Chuck, why are you here? Why are you back? Didn't I tell you to leave me alone?!" I shouted as Alex tied with my hands with a thick sting of rope.
"You think I'll listen to you? I don't think you remember Alice but I'm the boss. I've always been, can't you see that?" He said as he crouched down in front of me.
"I'm sorry but your smelly. murky breath is making my vision quite blurry."
I really should know when to keep my mouth shut
"You've changed since the last time I saw you. You've grown..." he said tracing the back of his hand down my cheek while looking me up and down.
"You disgusting motherfucker, get the fuck away from me! I hate you! Help! Help me! Someone!" I shouted.
"Oh yes you've definitely changed. Alex please do something to quite her down," he said and Alex once again made an appearance under Chuck's command. He came up to me and slapped me on the cheek.
"Really Alex? You think that hurt me? My four year old can hit harder than you," he sent a glare my way and raised his hand again.
"Enough Alex, come here," Chuck said and they turned away from me.
I took that as my one opportunity, the two of them weren't smart enough to tie feet. I jumped up and I started running, I knew Alex was behind me and that made me push harder.
"Get back here Alice! You can't run away from me!" he shouted from behind me.
"Watch me you asshole," I knew where I was running too. I was running straight for the police station and I knew I would make it.
"Jeff! Jeff!" I ran up to one of the officers and he told me he was in the chief's office. I didn't even bother knocking on the door -not that I could've- I just barged in.
"Alice what happened to you?" Jeff asked as he stood up from behind the desk, he grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the rope to untie my hands. I didn't bother answering, the tears I was holding back surfaced and I crashed into his arms.
"Sweetheart, tell me what happened. Why is the back of your head bleeding? Alice answer me."
"It's Chuck, he found me. I need to move again, I can't stay here. I'm putting lives in danger if I stay here. I need to go, I have to," I said and began to pull away from his hold.
"Hey Alice lo- look at me!" he said stopping me from moving any further. "I'm not going to let them hurt you okay? If it were up to me I wouldn't of let that bastard out of prison in the first place."
"You see Jeff it's not up to you! It always seems like the universe is against me! As soon as my life is going good that's when it decides to crumble! Jeff I just can't take this anymore!" I shout and break down. He just holds me in his embrace, like a father would a daughter. Ever since I moved here Jeff has been a father figure to me.
"Hey Captain, do you think I can get tom- Alice?" I hear Cole say from behind me. I turn around and met his gorgeous brown eyes. He rushes over to me and pulls me out of Jeff's arms and into his own.
He places his hands on the side of my face, forcing me to look into his eyes, "Alice, tell me. What happened to you? Why are you crying? Why do you have blood on the back of your head?"
"Maybe you shouldn't be firing questions at her like that? She's still a bit shaken. I think I'll leave you two to talk." He walked to the door and gave me 'the look.'
"Cole, I...I think you should sit down for this please. I need to tell you something, something about my past."
After we both sat down on the chairs, he looked at me waiting for me to begin.
"It started when I was 16..."
