"Booyah! Beat that!" I yelled after beating him for the third time in a row. We were playing one of those carnival games, you know? The one where you race another person by spraying water through a hole? Yeah that one.

"I'm just letting you win so that you don't complain," Cole said with a grumpy face.

"Ugh huh sure. Your not the best liar you know that right?" I teased, chasing after him when he walked away. I looped his arm through mine and just held on.

"Come on I was just teasing!"

"I'm not mad," he grumbled.

"Did I hurt your ego a little bit?" I laughed. He still didn't look too happy so I began to poke his cheek, then his arm, then his stomach, and his cheek again.

"Gosh your just like Jasmine."

"Hey but she's a cutie so I'm taking that as a compliment," I said annoyed with his attitude and crossed my arms over my chest looking the other  way.

Cole walked in front of me and grabbed my face placing a kiss on my lips.

"If I would've known that we can do that I would've did that before I started poking you."

"I'm glad you didn't because then I wouldn't of been able to do it first," he smiled causing me too as well.

"You mother-"

"Cole? Oh my gosh is that really you?" I was interrupted my an annoying voice behind me. Cole's smile vanished as he narrowed his eyes past me.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he said, his grumpy mood returning. I turned to stand next to him and to see who he was talking too. She had a small face, long blonde hair, and was quite tall. I knew who she was, it was impossible not too. They looked exactly the same. She was Jasmine's biological mother. She didn't even bother replying, she walked up and hugged him, pushing me slightly as she did so, which didn't go unnoticed by Cole. Before he could say anything I beat him to it,

"You do know that there was a person standing right next to him right? I would appreciate it if you didn't push me, thank you."

"And who are you?"

Deciding to stir the pot just a bit, I plastered the sweetest smile on my face and said, "I'm Cole's girlfriend. You are?" I asked although I already knew the answer.

"My name is Carol, I'm actually Jasmine's mother," she replied.

"Your not her mother, you just gave birth to her," Cole said coldly. Suddenly her friendly tone turned sour,

"You know I was actually trying to find you. I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to get her back. You thought I was gone for good? Guess again. She's my daughter just as much as she is yours, so if I were you I would watch your back."

"Is that a threat? I hope you still know that I'm a cop."

"Oh believe me, I'm very aware. And shall I say, you look even better now" she said eyeing him up and down. I couldn't help but let the jealousy inside come out,

"Hey his eyes are up there, if I were you I would keep your eyes above his neck."

"And what are you gonna do short stack?" Oh hell no, she did not just go there. I'm not even short! I'm average height at 5'5, she just happens to be freakishly tall.

"Oh you don't want to see what I'm capable of doing," I said going up to her face, looking up at her slightly. I felt Cole grab my arm and pull me back,

"Carol do us all a favor and go back to where you came from. And just remember, if you try to take this to court I'll win," he said turning around and walking away. When he realized that I wasn't moving he picked me up dragged me away.

"Hey Jolly Green Giant, if you come near us again I won't be so nice," I said.

After Cole dragged me away and took us to more secluded part of the fair, I sat down and he sat next to me with his legs on either side of me.

"So what was all that about?" He asked, I wasn't looking at him but I can somehow hear the smile in his voice.

"I don't know what your talking about," I said turning to look at him.

"Oh yeah you do. You know the whole 'come near us again' and the 'I'm Cole's girlfriend' thing."

"Do you want me to be totally honest?" I asked.

"I wouldn't want it any other way."

"I knew who she was before she said she was Jasmine's mom. I don't know if you know this but I care so deeply for Jasmine. She's my favorite student, I know I'm not supposed to say that but I can't help it. That little girl worked her way into my heart and once I realized that her mother wasn't in the picture, I didn't realize how much anger I had towards her. How can a mother just cut herself out of her child's life? Jas is such an amazing girl who needs her mother. And when she mentioned getting her back I just don't know what happened. I just lost it," I said with tears welling up in my eyes.

"How did you know? I know that I didn't tell you about Carol leaving," he said looking into my eyes.

"I see it. When her friends are getting picked up by their mothers, I can see it in her face just how much it hurts. She's young but she already knows that something is missing and I can tell it won't be long before she asks you about it. I just breaks my heart."

He didn't say anything, all he did was lean in and place his lips on mine. All his words were said through that kiss.

"Thank you"

"For what?"

"For loving my daughter as much as I do," he said pecking me one more time. "I think we should get back to this date, I bet I can beat you on the next game."

"Oh your so on," I said grabbing his outstretched hand and walking along beside him.

"And that's what happened, nothing eventful happened after that," I was in my apartment with Andrea and I just finished telling her the events of the night before and to say she was speechless was an understatement. All of a sudden she jumps up and starts yelling,

"THAT'S MY BEST FRIEND, YEAH THAT'S MY BEST FRIEND!"

"Que te calles (will you shut up)?" I said pulling her down.

"Sorry but that was just so cool, who knew you had it in you. But do you think that whole rant amount Jasmine's mom leaving had nothing to do with how you felt about your own mom?" she asked getting personal.

"Oh definitely. I knew that had a big reason as to why I reacted the way I did but it was has to do with the fact that Jasmine is such a good girl and I don't know why she would just leave her." I said.

"Well hopefully you and Cole do well so you can fill that void in her life."

"I really do hope so too. Enough about me, so.....how are you and Will?"

"Oh gosh it's been really fun if you know what I mean. He just knows so much and let me tell you, he is soooo good, probably the best I've ever had," she said fanning herself with a dazed look in her eyes.

"Okay ew, I did not need to know that. What happened to your vow? I thought you weren't going to sleep with the guy after the first date?"

"It wasn't the first date. It was the second," she said and winked at me before getting up and going to the restroom.

What am I going to do with her?
