"I love you." Amy makes no hesitation.
"I love you, too." Karma adds still a bit nervous.
The girls, in overwhelming love, throw themselves into a full on make out session. Amy stops herself before she goes any further, remembering they have plans in a while.
"What's wrong, Aims?"
"Uh ..." Amy checks her phone for the time. "Put on your dress. We gotta go." Karma does as she's instructed, and Amy puts on her dress at the same time. They leave, and Amy drives. When they're right in front of the building, Karma notices she's being taken to the Italian restaurant she's wanted to go to since the sixth grade. Amy pulls the car in front of the valet, she opens Karma's door to take Karma's hand. The valet takes Amy's keys, and drives her car to the parking lot, while they walk in. They're greeted by a man in formal attire. "Reservation, please."
"Yes. Raudenfeld for two."
"Ah, come with me."
They follow the man to a table near the back corner of the room. The man hands them menus and goes back to attend his post. "I can't believe you remembered." Karma says with disbelief.
"Well, why wouldn't I remember?"
"I haven't talked about this place for years."
"Well, now you can talk about how nice it is."
The waitress walks to the table, and asks them if they are ready to order.
Karma says nothing, and Amy orders for her, "We'll have the filet mignon."
"Now, are there any allergies you would like to tell me about?"
"Yes. I'm allergic to peanuts." Amy says with no pauses.
"Thank you, and I'll return with your meals shortly." The waiter walks off.
They make idol chat until the waiter returns. Once she does the girls stop talking, and start to eat. The waitress walks away and the girls remain silent for a few minutes.
"I love you." Karma says something for the first time since they got their food.
"I love you, too."
"No, I really mean it. You did all of this for me." Karma pauses. "You made a reservation to a place I've always wanted to go, you put on a dress, you're being so nice and sweet. You're the perfect girlfriend."
"What kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn't?"
"Mine."
"I could kiss you right now."
"I know."
They have a romantic date, holding hands under the table the whole time. When they finish eating, the waiter returns. Amy pays the bill, and the waitress takes their dishes. They leave, and retrieve Amy's car from the valet. Amy starts to drive away. She gets about half way there before Karma says, "Amy ...bcan you pull over for a minute?"
"Yeah, sure." Amy pulls over, "What's up?"
"I've wanted to do this all night." Karma leans in and kisses Amy. She left Amy unprepared but still ready to go.
"Let's get to my house before we go any further." Amy lets go of Karma, and grabs the wheel. Amy starts driving, "Can we go to my house? Please." Karma asks with puppy eyes.
"Yeah." Amy changes direction, and heads to Karma's house.
Karma decides to look around Amy's car, and finds an old notepad, a sketchbook, a pencil, and various packs of stickers. She leaves the stickers alone but picks up the sketchbook. She opens it to see pictures of a girl, which seem to be very detailed. Some are of Amy, the rest are Karma. Some of them seem worried, the rest seem fine.
"What are you doing? That's mine." Amy shouts.
"I didn't know you draw."
"I really don't, those are from like a month ago. Now put it back."
"Fine." Karma puts the sketchbook back but picks up the notepad. It's hers. She opens the book, it's scribbled with lyrics she wrote about Amy. She thinks to herself, I must have forgotten to take this before. I hope she didn't read it. Amy had read the book, but she hadn't read those lyrics.
"What's that?" Amy looks at the book.
Karma flips the page as fast as she can, "Just some song lyrics."
"Oh, can I see?"
"You're driving." Karma says with a mocking tone.
"Well sing them to me."
"No."
"Why not? You always show me songs."
"I don't know, just come up with an excuse in your head."
"Whatever." Amy smirks.
Karma grabs the pencil, and starts to jot something down. She's writing about Amy. She starts to write, "Amy, I don't how to tell you this but I'm madly in love with you. I feel it's too weird to bring up, but I can't help it.
'Would it be a sin, if I can't help falling in love with you? Like a river flows, surely to the sea, darling so it goes, some things were meant to be. Take my hand. Take my whole life, too. 'Cause I can't help falling in love with you.'
You make me happy when no one else can, I never knew why until now. You're the most perfect girl I've ever met. You're funny, smart ... beautiful.
I don't know I got so lucky. You're not just my girlfriend you're my best friend."
Karma sets the book in her lap and looks up at Amy. She keeps her gaze for a while. She keeps wishing she had enough guts to do the unexpected and kiss Amy, but that might result in a car crash. "Stop."
Karma's gaze diverts, and she asks "What are you talking-"
"Don't play dumb." Amy nudges Karma with her arm, "I know you were staring at me."
"Uh ... Yeah."
"What'd you write this time?" Amy yanks the book from Karma's hands, before she can stop her she's already moved it to her other arm and its out of Karma's reach.
"Amy!"
"Yes, dear." Amy says in a mocking tone.
"Gimme my book back."
"Nope. We're here, we're queer, and I'm reading what you wrote."
They leave the car and walk into Karma's house, her parents still aren't there. They wander up the stairs. Amy clutches Karma's hand in one of hers, and the book in the other. Karma throws herself on the bed, Amy looks at the book, and starts reading what Karma was writing. Amy reads the paragraph, word by word. She takes a few moments in between to comprehend Karma's words. Amy sets the book to her side when she finishes reading.
