It was getting late and Natasha was sneaking back into the common room, she saw Sirius turn to her. His hair was wet and he had tears stained on his cheek.
"Sirius ?" She had never seen the boy so fragile. All she saw him was this boy who took everything as a joke. But he was crying, being vulnerable.
"Nat" he sniffled "it's late what are you doing up ?"
"Was hanging out with my sister. What happened" she stood there awkwardly
He shook his head "it's nothing, I'm fine" he was in denial "you should get to sleep" his voice broke
She walked over to him, she hugged him tightly. He didn't ask but she knew he needed it. He cried quietly in her arms "what happened ?" She asked again
Sirius looked at her as they sat down "had an argument with my family" he frowned "I don't think I'm ever going to be able to escape them Nat" he was working himself up "I don't think I can be the man I want to be. I'm destined to be bad"
"Hey" she grabbed his shoulder "you're not a bad person. You're a very good person who is unfortunate in the family department. You understand me ?"
He just nodded
"And besides the world isn't split into good people and death eaters there is both equally light and dark in us. It's a human emotion" she put her arm around him "what matters realistically is what part we choose to act on and what we favour" she stood up and put out her hand "come on you're going to bed"
He stood up and looked at her "thank you" Sirius said gratefully. He pulled her into another hug "you're too smart for your own good.
Sirius walked upstairs that night not knowing that the words Natasha had repeated to him, he would be using on someone else...
Rory and Regulus decided to have lunch together. Regulus was laying down while Rory sketched. Rory looked up at him "when are you going to speak to your brother ?"
"What do you mean ?"
"Nat tells me you two got in a fight. You chose to stay with your family and they kicked him out" She sighed "he's your brother you have to be around him"
"He's made it clear that I'm a burden to him. And I might as well plague you as long as I can" he grabbed her face "matter a fact I think it agrees with you"
She grabbed his hand "stop it" Regulus sat and stared at her "what are you doing ?"
"I'm looking at you" he kept eye contact
"I mean what do you intend to do ?" Rory looked back down at her drawings
"With life ?" He asked "do something my family wants me to do"
"That's a waste of time" she said harshly. She was one to have no finger
Regulus looked at her again "and what would you have me do ?" He leaned down
She looked up again "you get your grades and make something for yourself. You're very smart in potions I think you could become a teacher"
He sighed standing up "you're not playing fair" he walked away a little
She stood up "here" she passed him her sketches. He flipped through them
"There amazing" he saw one of two people sitting in a train compartment. A boy and a girl "is that"
"You and me. The first time we met"
"When Natasha abandoned you so you had to make friends" he laughed handing them back to her "what are you and Evan"
"Friends. For now"
Regulus walked a bit "don't get with him" he uttered
The sentence caught Rory's attention in a second "what ?"
"Don't get with him"
She looked confused "why ?" Why was he acting weird
Regulus came closer to him "why ? You know why"
She shook her head "no" she frowned
"Yes" Regulus tried to touch her face
She moved his hand "Regulus. You're being mean stop it! Stop it!"
"What do you mean ?"
"I have been the background character my whole life. For you and everyone else" her voice became delicate "and I will not just go with you because you finally realised what you like about me" tears swelled in her eyes "I won't. I won't do it" she cried "not when I've spent my entire life loving you" she threw her things on the floor strutting away.

The rest of the school year was weird. Natasha was usually with three people. Slughorn, Sophie or Remus. She hadn't spoken to James the rest of the school year.
It consisted of him looking at her in the hallway and just shaking his head, she wouldn't even acknowledge his presence. It was like their whole friendship had just been flushed and forgotten forever.
Rory however broke off things with Evan, she had guilt about leading him on. She also didn't speak to Regulus the rest of the school year. He attempted two times but she wouldn't hear it. He eventually gave up.
She would spend her time playing Quidditch after school with Richard or writing letters to Jo or Meg. She could not wait for summer.
