"You must be nervous." Makima said, a slightly off putting gentle tone in her voice. "This is the first time you are to face an operation of such importance." Her fingers playfully tracing a path on the surface of her desk.
(Y/N) took a single sip to his tea cup as he thought about it for a second. "Well, it's not exactly something I do every weekend, of course I'm nervous." He mumbled the last part with certain doubt. "We are to enter on a single building full of enemies to hunt the people who killed Himeno."
"Well, if worse comes to worst, I'll be there to help you." Makima took a single moment to check on her cup of tea, although with the mere touch of her fingers she was able to realize it had gone cold quite a while now.
"How come?" (Y/N) asked, right when Makima leaned over the desk and getting a little closer to him. Her office always made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. "Don't you've got an important appointment later?"
"I do." She simply replied, leaning even closer into the desk as she stared right into his eyes. "But I can help you still, just like I did the day of the attack."
"Oh, don't remind me of that." The gross memories of her powers present on his mind, (Y/N) took another sip of his tea. "Well, I think that at least makes me feel a little safer..."
"As you should." She smiled.
"Although, you're skipping over a couple of rules to do that, aren't you?" (Y/N) chuckled slightly at the thought.
She smiled lightly, trying to play it off. "Your division is under my protection, it's just my job to ensure you're all safe and sound." Although she ultimately ended up chuckling at the doubtful look (Y/N) was giving her. "At least that's what I tell my superiors when they catch me doing that."
"And why are you actually doing it? I mean, your true reasons."
"Huh?"
"You say that's what you tell your superiors, you made it seem like it's not the real reason." (Y/N) smiled.
Makima took a moment to respond, on which she smiled at him as if she had been caught. "You know, I don't usually attend to the parties thrown by public safety agents, like the last one you went to, before it all went down." She said. "That was the first time some of those experimented devil hunters ever saw me in person."
"Oh, that's..." (Y/N) mumbled, trying to find the correct words. "Interesting, to say the least."
"But I went to that party because..." Her voice trembled a little bit, which certainly surprised (Y/N), who had to struggle to not demonstrate it. "I mean, something about it seemed special, you know?" She smiled lightly. "Like I had to be there."
"Well, you were certainly in time for a first row seat to see Denji's first kiss." (Y/N) chuckled. "Although that didn't go that well..." His stomach almost dropped as he remembered the details, and Makima chuckled. "Still, that doesn't answer my question."
"I think the reason that made me go to that party, that special reason..." She stared into his eyes, her smile never left her lips. "Had something to do with you being there."
"There's no plan." Kishibe had told them. "We're throwing every single special division agent at that building."
(Y/N) had been thinking about the possible outcomes of this operation since he got up from bed that morning. Of course, the mere thought of cramming everyone from the special division into a building full of enemies affiliated to the Gun Devil was probably one of the worst ideas Kishibe could've had, and yet, it felt surprisingly in line with his usual trains of thought. Aki had previously asked (Y/N) if he was afraid of what could happen on the mission, and he simply responded with a 'Yes'. Of course he was scared; after all, this was the first mission he would engage in as an official devil hunter of the fourth division.
