The next morning, I wake up to a yellow streak of sunlight streaming through the curtains and into my eyes. I sit up and gaze around my room. Perfection. Using my magic in Camelot was forbidden, mostly because my father would've had my head if he saw it, but also because rumors in Camelot spread like a wild fire. I clamber out of bed and fetch a beautiful green gown and matching heels. I put my hair into a bun and rest my crown on top of my head. As I walk out into the corridor, I glance out the window at the end of the hall. The sun is still rising, meaning breakfast is still a while away yet.
I subconsciously make my way to my favourite room in the entire castle; the Library. I would come here with my friends late at night and hunt for the oddest books we could get our hands on without getting caught. I walk aisle after aisle, running my hands along the books until one catches my attention. "The tale of Camelot" it reads. I laugh to myself and open it. I sit at a table and read the first few pages. Just as I was getting stuck into the pages of lies, Professor Dovey and Lady Lesso walk through the door. "Typical Y/n." Professor Dovey huffs. I laugh and close the book. "Come on, love. Bring it with you. Breakfast is almost ready." Lady Lesso says, motioning to follow. I gather the book and make my way over to the Deans. "Told you she'd be here." Professor Dovey expresses, proudly. Lady Lesso scoffs. "You've known her for what, thirteen plus years? I've known her for all but seventeen hours." She says, defending herself.
I laugh softly at their words and follow Professor Dovey out into the corridor, Lady Lesso trailing behind me. "What's the book about?" Lady Lesso asks, now standing next to me. "It's about Camelot." I reply. She studies the book. "May I?" she asks. I hand her the book. She opens it and reads the first few sentences. "Boring." she says, handing the book back. "Boring, and false." I add. She laughs, raising an eyebrow at me. "What do you mean false? It was written by someone who lived in Camelot." she asks. "The author talks about the King. They say how my father was such a bad guy for banning magic, when he really banned it to prevent my brother and I getting hurt like our mother did. They say he hated magic users but that wasn't all true either. Once again, he just feared for mine and my brothers safety." I explain. Lady Lesso nods, taking in my words.
Once we make it to the dining hall, there is a seat left open next to Professor Dovey in which I'm encouraged to sit in. Lady Lesso makes her way around to the other side of the table, sitting opposite Professor Dovey and I. As everyone is eating, Lady Lesso clears her throat which automatically draws my eyes to her. "So, Princess Y/n, how are you finding being back?" she asks. I take a brief second to think. "It's good. Settling in nicely. After nine years, nothing has changed so it feels just like old times." I reply with a smile. She raises both eyebrows. "Nine years?" she questions. Professor Dovey cuts in. "Y/n graduated the year before you started." she explains. Lady Lesso nods slightly. "What would that make you now? Twenty-eight, Twenty-nine?" she asks, almost interrogating. "I graduated when I was nineteen, so yeah, Twenty-eight." I reply, focusing on the waffle in cutting.
After Breakfast is over, Lady Lesso catches me at the door. "Join me for a walk, will you Princess?" she asks, softly. I sigh with a smile. "Of course, Lady Lesso. I would love to accompany you." I reply. Clutching the book I stole from the Library earlier that morning, Lady Lesso and I make out way through the castle and into the Garden's of Good. "I must say, Princess, you look gorgeous today. Green's definitely your colour." Lady Lesso speaks, breaking the silence. My cheeks redden as I look up to meet her gaze. "Why thank you, Lady Lesso. That's very kind of you." I reply, fighting internal butterflies.
As we reach a small staircase, Lady Lesso offers me her hand. "Careful, Princess. I would hate for you to trip." she says, sincerely. I happily take her hand and walk down the steps. Once at the bottom, our hands stay connected for an extra few seconds before we both let go. We continue walking, which leads us around the lake. Once on the far side of the lake away from the castle, Lady Lesso gestures to a picnic table. I nod and follow her over. We sit opposite eachother. "Lady Lesso, if I may." I start. "Of course, Princess." she replies. "You're the Dean for the School Of Evil, making you a Never. You don't give off that 'Never' vibe whatsoever." I continue. She laughs, looking down at the table, then back up at me. "You're right Princess, I am a Never. Lot's of people think that makes you a cold-hearted bitch. To me, being a Never just means that I have different morals than what is considered Good." she explains. I rest my head on my hand as she speaks, intrigued by her explanation. "Just wait until the school year starts. Then you'll see 'Never Leonora', she continues. I straighten myself up, surprised. "Leonora Lesso?" I ask, even more intrigued than before. She nods simply. "Suits you." I tell her. She laughs in response.
