The first day passes. It is a breeze. No arguing from Agatha, which catches me by suprize. I hear nothing from Lesso all day. I decide to ignore it. The next few days pass, and still nothing. She won't even show up to eat with the others. It's now Thursday evening, and we're all eating dinner. Well, all except for Lesso. "Y/n, have you talked to Lesso since Monday?" Professor Dovey asks. "No, I think she's avoiding me." I say quietly. Dovey looks at me, concerned. "Why would she be avoiding you?" she asks, matching my quiet tone. I turn to face her. "We got into a bit of a screaming match while I was in her office." I explain. She frowns. "Don't ask." I say.
I stand up from my seat. "Where are you going?" Dovey asks, lost. "To talk to Hort. I need to ask him something." I tell her. Somehow Hort and I had formed some kind of bond. He bumped into me while I was leaving the school for Evil on Monday, and we've been chatting every now and again from then on. I get loads of dirty looks from Never students as I approach him. I place a hand on his shoulder. "Hort, can I talk to you outside please?" I ask. He nods and follows me out. Never students laugh, which causes me to get frustrated. "Is everything okay, Miss Pendragon?" he asks, clearly confused. "You're in Lady Lesso's class, right?" I ask, avoiding his question. "Yeah, why? What's wrong?" he answers. "Has she been showing up to class?" I ask, still avoiding his question. "Yeah, she's been there. Why?" he replies, still asking. "No reason, everything is okay. Thank you, Hort. You can go back now." he rushes back to his table, and I make my way back to Professor Dovey.
"Okay, Y/n. What was that about?" she demands. "I just wanted to know whether Lesso has actually been showing up to class." I explain. "Why? Tell me, Y/n. I want to know." she pushes. "I'll tell you later. Right now, I have to go sort something out." I say, leaving the others. Before I reach the door, Dovey calls out. "Well has she been in class?" she shouts. I turn back to her. I nod, then walk out of the room.
I make my way over to Lesso's office. The entire school is empty as they're all eating in the dining hall. I reach her office and barge into it without knocking. She jolts forward in her chair, startled. "Y/n-" she tries. "What the fuck is going on, Lesso?" I force, leaning forward on her desk. She looks at me, somewhat guilty. She says nothing. "No one has seen, or heard from you since Monday. I swear to god, if this has anything to do with our shit-fight, I'm going to flip my lid." I say. She still says nothing. "Leonora, talk to me! I can't read minds!" I shout, completely over it all. "Okay, I'm sorry." she says, breaking the eye contact. I stand up straight, fixing my dress. "Sorry for being a dick, or sorry for vanishing?" I question. "Both." she answers quietly. I sigh. "Look, Lesso. I know we've only known eachother for like a week, and I know showing emotions and accepting help can be hard for some people, but honestly, I'm just trying to be a good person. Call it me trying to be your friend, or whatever. I don't care. I just want to be here for you and I want you to know that."
She looks up at me. "I know, Y/n. I know you're trying to be a good person, and I appreciate that." she says. I run my fingers through my hair. "Then why are you treating me like shit, Leonora? You're acting like you don't want anything to do with me." I reply. She looks down again. "It's hard for me to accept your kindness, Y/n. It's all so... new... to me. I'm not used to it. I'm not used to any of it." she says, coming clean. I take a seat in front of her. I reach forward and take her hands in mine. Her body tenses. I nod at her, reassuring her. She relaxes her muscles. "I understand that, Leonora. I truly do. I never got the comfort I needed after my mother died, so I completely understand how you feel. I need you to talk to me though. If my actions make you uncomfortable, tell me. If you need a break, tell me. Like I said earlier, I can't read minds." I explain. She laughs slightly, which causes me to do the same.
We spend a good five minutes just sitting there, hands intertwined. I sigh, breaking the silence. "I should probably get going. Dinner will be over soon." I say, letting go of her hands. She nods. "Thank you, Y/n." she says, looking into my eyes. Her words are genuine. "You're welcome, Lesso." I reply. I start my way back to the school for Good, but stop in her doorway. Her eyes are still on me. I turn back to her. "And please, come to eat with us all again. Everyone is wondering where you are." I add. She nods with a smile. "I will. See you tomorrow." she answers. I nod once, happy with her words. "You will. Good night, Lesso." I say, officially leaving the room.
