Two months have passed since I found out Sophie and I can communicate with our minds. It's now April and everyone is in the Easter spirit. Although it's cute to see, I don't understand the fuss over eating too much chocolate for ones own good. Every year, on easter morning, the students of both Good and Evil gather on the field out back and the staff cast a spell that causes Chocolate to rain down on the students. Other than the Easter decorations, that's the main Easter tradition. An Easter themed breakfast also takes place that morning before the Chocolate Rain.
I wake up on Easter morning, already dreading the day ahead. If I have to interact with too many hyper students, I might lose my mind. As I'm heading to the dining hall, all I can hear is excited students chatting about what an amazing day it's going to be. I beg to differ. I have nothing against Easter, the holiday just doesn't make sense to me. Luckily enough, classes don't start until after lunch, meaning I only have one class; Archery last period. I walk into the hall and make my way to Lesso, who is glaring at a bunch of Evers. "Hey, love. What's up?" I ask, leaning on the chair beside her. She keeps her eyes fixed on the Evers.
"Those bloody Evers are so excited about it being Easter. What's the big deal?" she answers. I shake my head. "I have no idea. I've never understood it either." she looks to me, shocked. "Really? Easter doesn't excite you?" she asks. "Nope. Never has, don't think it ever will." I tell her. "You're the first Ever I've met who isn't obsessed with it." she tells me. I laugh, walk around the table, then sit in front of her. Once the last few teachers and students sit, Bunny and Egg shaped pancakes and waffles appear on the tables, along with fruits, juices, and other syrup-y bits. Lesso rolls her eyes and I laugh. "Oh how I've missed this." I say, taking a mouthful of a pancake bunny.
Lesso looks like she's fighting for her life the whole of breakfast. Every time I look at her, her face is scrunched or she's rolling her eyes. I laugh every single time. She looks up at me while biting a strawberry. "What?" she asks, over it all. I snort. "Nothing. Nothing at all." I say. "No, say it. What are you laughing about?" she forces. I clear my throat. "Nothing. Everything is fine. Nothing's funny." I lie. She raises an eyebrow. I laugh again. Her expression drops. "Fine. You're reactions are fantastic." I tell her. She glares at me while aggressively cutting the head off a pancake bunny.
My jaw drops. "Woah, that was rough." I say, a little frightened. "I know, how evil of me." she replies. I chuckle then bite into a chocolate covered strawberry. While I chew on the chocolate covered fruit, Professor Dovey turns to Lesso and I. "Isn't today just wonderful!" she exclaims. I look at Lesso who is already looking at me. We both look at Dovey. "Don't tell me you don't like Easter either, Y/n." she says, gasping. "I don't not like it, I just don't understand why people think it's so amazing." I tell her. She shakes her head. "You enjoyed it when you went here." she says. I laugh nervously. "I only acted that way so I didn't ruin everyone else's day. Easter is just like any other day to me." I tell her. Lesso laughs.
"I can't believe this." Dovey huffs. I turn back to Lesso who is hiding her laughter. I start laughing with her. After breakfast, Lesso and I walk side by side to the field. Students had already started gathering before we got there so chatter was coming from every direction. We walk through the groups, greeting students as we go. Other staff members, including Professor Dovey start walking onto the field. We walk over and meet them. With a wave of Dovey's finger, a wooden stage appears in front of the students. The staff of Good line up on one side, the staff of Evil on the other. Dovey and Lesso stand in the middle.
"Happy Easter Students!" Dovey exclaims. Lesso rolls her eyes. "At the School for Good and Evil, we have a tradition where on special occasions, like today and Christmas, everyone gathers here on the field. Today, as it is Easter, we have a tasty surprise. It is the same every year, so for the next three years after this, you'll know what to wait for. Staff, please raise your fingers." Dovey says. All of the staff from both schools raise their fingers. On the count of three, all staff members point their fingers to the sky.
