Natsuki POV
I was glad I had joined the Literature Club. They all seemed super nice, apart from Yuri. I had no idea what her deal was, she was probably one of those people who though manga was for little kids. I hated those types of people.
Looking back, I noticed Yuri's expression. It was hard to read, but I guessed she was a hard to read sort of person. One of those people who prefer their own company. Her lips were pursed and her eyes were slightly narrowed. She caugh me looking and grew red and frustrated looking,
"Can I help?" She asked, strictly.
"N-no." I muttered, "Dummy."
"What did you say-!"
"So Natsuki!" Sayori cried, a little too loudly, "Which cupboard is your manga in?"
"Oh uh..." I replied, caugh off guard, "Just down this corridor I think."
When I looked back, Yuri was looking away.
"Wow Natsuki!" Exclaimed Monika as she burst open the doors to the cupboard, "You must really like manga huh?"
"Eh," I said. I was afraid she would be mocking, but she sounded kind and sincere, "I-I guess haha."
"WOAH!!" cried Sayori, "Cool!"
I smiled. Yuri remained silent, but stopped just next to me. Her arm brushed against mine and I shifted away from her, as my face turned hot.
"Alriiiiight!" Cried Monika, "Since there's six boxes we'll all take a box, then Yuri and Natsuki will both take another box, while me and Sayori arrange the other four boxes, is that ok?"
"Yeah!" exclaimed Sayori, but I was less pleased. Why did it have to be me and Yuri?!
"Pardon me," said Yuri, which made me jump, "but I'm not that good at lifting heavy objects. I don't think I would be good for carrying the second box-"
"But Yuri!" replied Monika with a sigh, "That's why you should do it. Lifting weights is good for you, and besides..." She glanced at me slightly, "It would be good if you bonded with our new member."
"But..." Yuri trailed off, seemingly not knowing any excuse she could make. It seemed she really didn't want to do it. I didn't want to do it either, but I wasn't going to be a baby about it like Yuri; sometimes you have to suck things up and get on with it.
"I don't mind," I said shrugging.
Yuri pursed her lips, but Monika beamed at me, "Great! Come on then!"
With lots of huffing and puffing, we managed to get the first four boxes up the stairs, along the corridor and into the clubroom. It took quicker than I thought though, and everyone (apart from a certain tall purple haired idiot) was happy.
"Ok, me and Sayori will arrange the boxes while you two fetch the other two boxes." Monika said. She looked over at the clock, "We've used up some time, so when you guy are back I think we should just skip right to sharing poems, mk?"
We all nodded, and me and Yuri walked out of the classroom. The walk to the cupboard seemed so long and awkward, I felt I had to break up the silence.
"Um, what did Monika mean by sharing poems?" I asked.
She sighed, and I felt annoyed. It was simple question! "Everyday, we share poems we wrote the night before and give feedback. We often have a theme, this week it was secrets."
"Oh." I said. Yuri stayed quiet, and I felt even more annoyed. If I had pissed her off she should say something. How did I even piss her off anyway?! I hadn't done anything.
I scrutinised her face. I guess she was attractive, she had large purple eyes and nice enough lips. My eyes dropped from her lips to her chest and I grew red. She was definately mature. Boys liked that didn't they? She probably had a boyfriend, with looks like that. I crossed my arm across my flat chest. She glanced at me sideways, and I blushed for looking at her, and her huge chest.
"Can I help?" She asked snootily.
"Ah- um-" I cried flustered, "N-no! I mean... um," My head felt scrambled, as I tried to think of something to say, "Uhm, why did you join the literature club?" It was a dumb question, but I felt so embarrased that she caught me staring at her that I said the first thing I could think of.
"Well..." She said, turning a corner; I scampered along to catch up with her, "I love literature. I've loved it since I was very little. And I've wanted to join a club since I joined this school, but none piqued my interests. Or if they did, they were far to busy and crowded. And when I found the literature club, it was only Monika and Sayori. It's perfect for my interests and it didn't have many people , so I joined." She shrugged, "Why did you join?"
"Uh..." I said. I felt kinda stupid compared to her, "Well, I wanted to join the anime club because... y'know, but it was just a bunch of gross guys talking about anime girls. And then I heard some people talking about Monika's new literature club, so... I decided to join."
"I did wonder why you weren't in the anime club," Yuri remarked, "But it sounds disgusting."
"It was!" I muttered, "I was the only girl in the club, and I now know why."
Yuri made a small "mm" noise. She probably wasn't very interested. I knew she didn't like me, but I didn't know why.
"So," I said, as we reached the cupboard at last, "have you ever read manga before?"
"Ah- no." Yuri muttered, "I prefer novels, fantasy or phycological horror books."
"Well, I hate horror!" I said, "But fantasy is my favourite genre!" I smiled up at her, but it wilted away when she wasn't even looking.
"Let's just get this over with." She sighed under her breath.
I bit back an "Excuse me?!". I had no idea why Yuri didn't like me, but I decided that maybe I should leave her be. I felt frustrated though, I had been kind to Yuri, and she had barely noticed or made any attempt to be kind back. Did she really hate manga that much? We didn't say a word until we arrived back at the clubroom.
"Hey guys!" Monika cried as I opened the door, Yuri following from behind me, "Natsuki, we've placed them here, is that ok?" She pointed at two shelves, one was full of manga, the other only about one quater full.
"That's more than ok! Thanks Monika, thanks Sayori!"
Monika gave a thumbs up, and Sayori grinned, "Yuri why don't you make tea, while me, Monika and Natsuki arrange the last manga's then we can share poems!" Sayori smiled.
We all agreed, and the tea was made by the time the last of the mangas were placed. We all flopped on top of desks, apart from Monika, who stood at the board.
"Ok everyone! Time to share poems! As president, I'll talk to Natsuki first, while you two," She pointed the Yuri and Sayori, "compare poems, then we'll all swap! Natsuki, you can just give feedback for today, and bring in a poem tomorrow, ok?"
I nodded and Monika clapped her hands together, "Let's do this!"
