Natsuki POV

"Here's your gift."

Yuri handed me a box wrapped in expensive looking wrapping paper, which made my present to her look crap. The present that I was know holding in my hands also had a lilac ribbon.

I opened the card and read:

Dear Natsuki,

I hope this Christmas finds you well and in good spirits.

With love,

Yuri xx

The "with love" made me blush, though I pretened to admire the artwork on the front to distract myself. It was a robin wearing a white scarf with the words "Let it snow" written in sliver letters.

I ripped open the present, then stared.

"D-do you like it?" Yuri asked, her hands twirling through her hair anxiously.

It was a cute pink apron with a big pocket. It had a matching chefs hat and the whole thing was decorated in mini cupcakes and cats. The material was soft, though quite firm, perfect for an apron. I tried it on, tying a bow at the back. I slipped on the hat. It fitted perfectly. It was perfect.

"Y-Yuri!" I squeaked, "Great, this makes my gift look crap." I was geniunely touched though, and kept my apron on, althought I took of my hat - it looked a little weird wearing it when I wasn't baking. I pulled a parcel from my bag.

It was wrapped in plain brown wrapping paper, but I had decorated it with a pink gel pen, drawing smiley faces and stars. Little doodles basically. I also found some cheap pink ribbon in a charity shop, which was not tied in a bow around the box.

Yuri opened it enthusiastically, and I felt a jolt of nerves. It was such a stupid gift...

"Oh." Yuri said, picking up her gift with polite confusion, "Death Note?"

"U-uhm..." I picked at my fingernails in embarrassment, "It's a manga..."

"I can see that." Yuri said, examining the back.

"I- I thought you m-might like it!" I cried, "It's sort of horror and pyhcological and stuff you like... I have the whole set if you want it- it's not really my type of manga!" I looked at her crossly, trying desperately to hide my nervous feelings. It was a present I had gotten from Sayori, who seemed to have picked up the first manga she had seen in the bookshop. I hadn't really liked it, but I had kept it hoping that one day I would give it to Yuri. But know that I had I knew that it was a totally rubbish present. I would have loved to buy her something nice, but I had no money. Papa hadn't topped up my card in about two weeks.

"Well, I'll definately give it a shot..." Yuri smiled at me pityingly, and i felt a stab of anger.

"Y-y-you don't HAVE to!" I snapped, "If you don't want it say it!"

"I want to read it." Yuri said calmly, which made me so shoked that I couldn't speak, "I'm not really one to judge a book by it's cover. Besides, it looks interesting." She shifted on her knees so she sat closer to me, her hand resting on my thigh, "It's a very nice gift. I'm touched."

"Ehhhh-" I couldn't speak. My mind was whirling, and the spot on my thigh that Yuri's hand was touching burned. "Whatever baka..."

***

Over the next few days I had pretty much moved in completly with Yuri. She rented a little beat up blue car to pick up all my stuff, which I had packed in several cardboard boxes I had found in the attic. I didn't want to see Yuri that state of my house - no matter how much papa makes me clean it's never quite neat - so she waited outside. I handed her the boxes and she loaded them in the boot of the car.
