Flashback
Yeonjun stood next to his mom and dad as they all watched Arin stand on the edge of the bridge, just over the Han River. Police, EMTS, Fire Fighters, every first responder was there.
Yeonjun pleaded with Arin to not jump. "PLEASE! DON'T LEAVE ME! PLEASE! ARIN PLEASE!" Yeonjun was continuously crying, his mom was silently crying beside him, while his dad was trying to comfort his mom.
"Why? I hate myself and everybody hates me. I know you even hate me Yeonjun, how could anybody love me?" Arin said as tears flooded down her cheeks.
"I don't hate you! I love you Arin! Not everybody hates you! You're amazing in every way and a great big sister!" Yeonjun cried as he tried to convince Arin to climb down.
All Yeonjun hoped was she would climb back over the railing, hug him and tell him he was right, that she should live on. But that never happened.
Yeonjun, even though he is a teenager, he screamed and ran to the edge in disbelief. He started to cry even harder as he saw her body disappear within the Han River.
Nothing was ever the same
...
Yeonjun suddenly felt like he couldn't breathe and he gasped for air. He started crying too. The pain he suddenly felt came back to him. He closed the locket and put it back down, hoping he would stop seeing that day repeat in his mind like a broken record. His legs gave out on him and onto the ground he went. He brought his knees to his chest and started crying even more, wanting it to stop. 'This is why I don't come in here' Yeonjun thought to himself as soon as there was a small break in the horrid memory. It's been 3 years, but it feels like 3 minutes have passed to Yeonjun.
His mom came rushing up the stairs when she heard a thud and immediately knew. She rushed into Arin's room and got on her knees and hugged Yeonjun tightly.
Yeonjun completely broke at that moment. "Why did she have to?! Did she want to hurt me?!" He wasn't even thinking anymore. All he could feel was pain, some of it being physical too.
"She let depression win, and she wasn't thinking about us in the moment, all she felt was her own hatred for herself." His mom said.
"I just want to see Arin again.." Yeonjun said quieter, as he started crying harder and hugged his mom tightly, as if he was 5 again. "I just want to see her, even if it's for a minute.."
Yeonjun continued to cry on his mom's shoulder for what felt like forever, which in reality was probably only for half an hour. Yeonjun knew his mom would be even more lost if he committed too.
To Yeonjun, it seemed like the best option, there were all these 'but friends, but family, but etc.' in Yeonjun's mind but the thought that overpowered it all was 'I'll get to see Arin again, and I'll be with her forever, never alone again.'
Yeonjun finally had nothing more to cry about and he loosened his grip on his mom and just rested his head on her shoulder, refusing to look back at Arin's room.
His mom had him stand up and she brought him back into his room. Yeonjun sat down on his bed and his mom asked "Will you be alright for a bit while I go make dinner?"
"Yeah, I'll be alright," Yeonjun said as his mom left. He got up and locked his door. He remembered he probably should text his friends back finally.
