He looks at you from his seat by the kitchen counter as you fish out cups and filled each with freshly brewed coffee. Jungkook didn't even look away when you finally turned back to set the cups on the counter. He loved the way you smiled timidly catching him off guard, looking at you the entire time.
"You're looking good..." He says shamelessly as you push a cup to his side. What he really meant was you look so damn pretty and hot but he can't be that bold. He has to control himself around you or else he might just pin you against the wall and steal a kiss or two.
"Thanks... you don't look bad yourself." You said teasingly to which he chuckles in response.
Jungkook is liking the way you confidently banter with him. You used to just smile shyly and blush but here you are now, giving him a good comeback.
"How are you?" He asked, wanting to know first hand how you've been all this time.
"I'm doing just fine... and you?"
"I'm fine too." Jungkook says after taking a long sip of his coffee. "Thank you for inviting me here... this place still looks great."
"Yeah it does huh? We had a few things fixed but everything else looks the same."
"Not everything..." He says in a weak voice. "Listen... about last night, I started the fight and I'm not proud of it... but I'm not sorry I did it."
"I just wish you didn't get into one... I don't like seeing both of you hurt." You said in reply, both hands clasped on your lap as you look straight at him from across the counter.
"Eunj... I came back not for the wedding alone. I wanted to see you too. I want you to know why I left..."
"Jungkook... what do you mean?" You asked looking confused. All you know is that he left and never attempted to contact you so maybe he did move on with his life.
"That afternoon when I came here to say goodbye, what I really meant to say was I like you..."
"What?... Jungkook, you pushed me away."
"I had to, I didn't want you to have any reason to stay in Busan..."
"What do you mean?"
"I wanted you to take the exchange student program and leave Busan. I thought you'd refuse to leave and insist to stay instead if I confessed what I really felt."
"Why did you assume that? You could've told me the truth..." You replied sounding disappointed.
"If I said I like you back then, you might've decided not to leave... if that happened then you'd be under social service."
"So what if I stay in social service?"
"Eun-ji, do you even hear yourself? Do you think I'll be okay knowing you're not with family especially in the middle of your parents' divorce?"
"Still, if you told me everything instead of shutting me off, things would've been different." You said in regret.
"I know I messed up... and I'm sorry for not telling you sooner."
"You had so much time to tell me... I waited but you never came back... you didn't even call, not once."
Jungkook felt guilty all over again. Hearing how you had to go through family matters with a broken heart. "Eun-ji please forgive me... I only did what I thought was best for you at that time. Can you give me another chance? Please..."
"Jungkook... I'm okay where I am and whatever happened in the past should stay in the past. Maybe we were meant to meet each other but not destined to end up together. My life with you was a roller coaster ride. You made me feel things I never knew I would. You taught me how to be strong and be the best version of myself... and for that I thank you."
"Please Eun-ji, it doesn't have to be now... but please give me something to hold on to. If there's a tiny bit of hope for us to be together, please let me love you again. I can wait until you're finally ready to accept me." Jungkook was already in tears as he started confessing. He wanted to hold your hands but they were still tucked on your lap where he can't reach for them.
"I can't, I'm with Taehyung now..."
"I know... but I promise to stay away and wait for you... even if it takes a decade for you to give me another chance, I'll take it."
"Jungkook... you don't understand... It's been 5 years since you've been gone." That's when you finally held your cup with both hands, showing your ring finger.
<silence>
"I'm married to Taehyung."
