it was now summer, and everything had gone back to normal for the party. eleven and mike were together, and so was arlo and max. there was even something going on between apollo and steve.

𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐎 𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐖𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐒𝐇𝐔𝐓 when a wave of pain rushed from her stomach and down to her toes. she was squished behind one of the booths with max, mike, and el, her body being in a position that it shouldn't be because of the gaping hole in her stomach. her knees were brought up to her chest, her fingernails clawing at the skin on her shin. she didn't even jump when the skin broke, she just kept on doing it, hoping that the mind flayer did find them and that the others were safe. dustin's voice then appeared, coming from mike's supercom that was somewhere in the food court. the mind flayer must've gotten ahold of it because arlo heard it let out a roar before the sound of an object clattering on the floor appeared.
arlo opened her eyes when she heard the mind flayer start to walk around, every step it took making the building shake. it let out a few roars and snarls as it looked for the group. it's snarling got closer, making the four look up slightly, knowing that it was right above the booth. once the snarling had gotten farther away, along with the footsteps, mike peeked over the booth. he quickly bent back down, looking between the three girls.
"it's turned away. if we go up the stairs now, we'll make it." mike informed them in a hushed tone.
"what? no way, not with el's leg and the hole in arlo's stomach." max quickly shot down.
