season 10- (five years later)

[flashback to five years ago.]
He tapped his foot on the floor; anxiously as he stared at the building in front of him. The large building had three floors and his destination was the last floor. He ran his long fingers through his silky hair again, which had grown long in the last couple of months. It's now or never, jay he reminded himself.
Being in Bolivia made him realise two things; one : not everyone will wait for you and two : he wasn't ready to go back to the army. Jay wasn't surprised though when he reached the camp, he felt a pain in his body that kept telling him to just leave and move on but he pushed himself until he had to leave.
That's where Head Commissioner of Code Eleven, Elliot Hume comes in. He had come to the camp to recruit a new agent; a thing he does every three year and I suppose you could say, Jay stood out. That right there was his chance to get up and leave so he packed his bags and took the next plane to his destination; Florence, Italy.
Code Eleven has been known to solve the most cases each year from international to citywide, well at least that's what Jay has heard. So to be offered a job there and become one of the 29 agents they have is a tremendous opportunity and a great honor.
No one in the right sane mind would reject their offer even though Jay wanted to, he knew that this was the new fresh start he desperately needed. No friends. No family. No one to disappoint. Just himself. Just like how he prefers it.
He ran a hand through his suit, tightening his loosened tie and basically marched into the building, heading straight for the elevator. Just as the doors closed, a realization him him. Was there a receptionist there?
"Oh God, please no!" he had whispered to himself, hoping he didn't just embarrass himself on his first day. He quickly pressed the elevator button to first floor again and just as the door opened, he wanted to jump off a cliff.
There, right in front of the entry door stood a lady who just pointed her hand to the signing area. He shook his head in embarrassment, muttering a small apology in return. He sighed; already exhausted by his new job. He approached a table where laid a fingerprint sensor, immediately signing him in as he was handed a badge by the woman. He gratefully took it, murmuring a thank you as he walked away to the elevator.
He looked down to the shiny badge in his rough hands. The symbol of Code Eleven clearly prominent on it as we protect those who can't protect themselves was carved on top of it. He stared down at it for a couple more minutes; letting a huge sigh of breathe. This is it. Now or never.

"Now Mr Halstead, I am sure you know that you, at the moment don't have a partner but you don't have to worry, we just recruited Ms Alvarez and she will be your partner for the mean time." Elliott Hume, the Commissioner of Code Eleven had stated earning a curt nod from Jay. As he turned around to leave, Elliot stopped him. "Also we call ourselves Agent, Agent Halstead. I surely expect to see great things from you." he had said as Jay replied with a of course and walked away with the map in his hands.
On the way out he had seen a kitchen; feeling thirsty he decided to take a drink when a blonde girl bumped straight into him. "Un pinchazo tan estúpido." she had muttered angrily.
"Me or you?" Jay whispered slowly as she finally looked up, her sea blue eyes locked into his as confusion swims in them. "Huh?" she replied. "Who's 'such a stupid prick'? Me or you?" Jay had asked; slightly grinning as she just gaped at him; eyes wide open. "I-" she murmured before stopping herself.
She coughed up to clear her voice as she asked, "You can speak Spanish?" earning a chuckle from Jay. "Por qué suenas tan sorprendido?" he had questioned; smirking as she hid her now red face, muttering this is so embarrassing.
"All is forgotten," Jay had amusedly said, sticking his hand out, "I'm Jay. Dete- Agent Jay Halstead." She groaned in response, "Good god, I just embarrassed myself in my new partner. Great!"
"Wait- you're Agent Alvarez?" he had questioned just before she responded, "Atalia. Atalia Alvarez." shaking his hand. "Well it was nice to meet you, Atalia." he had replied, testing her name on his lips and before she turned around to leave; he called out, "Don't go bumping into anyone else, partner." he had mocked her as she gave him the finger.
He chuckled to himself as he thought maybe a new life won't be so bad after all.
