With each step she took, a soft crunch of snow was heard beneath her feet. "Cold." She had murmured, just loud enough for Jay to hear.

"It's not th-" He had begun to speak only to be shushed by Atalia. A smile fell on his lips as he looked over at her; bundled up in whatever she could find leaving only her rosy cheeks and narrowed eyes out.

With every step she took, she grumbled under her breath. "Don't speak. Don't breathe. Don't say anything. Just take me home." Jay's eyes twinkled with mirth as he shook his head and nodded to no one in particular. He stuffed his hands in his pockets as he let out a deep breath.

he had missed this place no matter how he felt at the end.

Not even it being seconds inside the apartment they had been assigned, Atalia was already snuggled in some blankets. She heaved out a breathy sigh and shook her head as she feigned excitement, "Only 201 days left! Freedom then."

On the sound of wood clacking, she looked up to see Jay holding a mug with a giant smile on his face. "You hate it here?" He had asked, wanting her to like his hometown even on the terms he left.

"Not hate, just dislike but again, I have only been here for half a day." She answered looking directly at him.

"You'll love it here." Jay had said with so much confidence that even she believed it.

After debating whether to talk about it or not, Atalia spoke up, "You never speak about Chicago."

"Bad memories." That's all he said.

Curiosity leaked into her features, "Did you impregnate someone and ran away?" She had joked but her eyes widened almost falling out of their socket and her jaw hit the floor when Jay remained monotone. "Oh my fucking god, you did!"

"What? No! How could you think that?" Jay had answered; a little offended and hurt. "Oh, please!" She exaggerated, "You look exactly like one of those men in those 'you're the father!' videos with your shady ass personality."

"Oh, wow. So that's what you think of me... Can't believe you finally showed your true colors the moment a child is mentioned." He spoke, his head in his hands as he feigned innocence but Atalia could see through it all.
