The peaceful morning soon turned to an atmosphere of tension when Jay and Atalia received a call from Code Eleven, alerting them of a new task. The urgency in the voice on the other end of the line left no room for questions. They were needed, and they had to move fast.

Jay and Atalia hurried to their guest room turned into gear room as Jay reached for his black tactical vest. He secured the vest around his torso, the weight both familiar and comforting. He then grabbed his black long-sleeve shirt, pulling it on before lacing up his sturdy combat boots.

Atalia was already halfway geared up, slipping into her own vest. She adjusted the straps to fit snugly and securely. She reached for her fingerless gloves, which provided her both protection and dexterity. It also looked good on her. Her hair was tied back tightly, and she donned a black beanie to keep any loose strands out of her face.

On the other side of the room, Jay strapped on his thigh holster, sliding his sidearm into place and securing it. He checked his primary weapon, ensuring it was loaded and ready. Atalia was doing the same with her own weapon, meticulously checking the sights and loading the magazine with practiced ease.

They both equipped their earpieces, the tiny devices fitting comfortably into their ears. Jay tapped his, testing the connection. “Check, check. You read me?”

Atalia nodded as she adjusted her earpiece. “Loud and clear.”

Jay handed her a compact radio for backup communication, which she clipped onto her belt. Finally, they both pulled on their lightweight tactical jackets, which provided an additional layer of protection and warmness in the cold Chicago weather. Jay glanced at Atalia, who was adjusting her earpiece. “You ready for this?”

Atalia gave him a determined nod. “Ready as I’ll ever be. Just try to keep up, old man."

Jay furrowed his eyebrows, gasping dramatically. "Who are you calling old? I’m in my prime!"

They both laugh as they head towards the front door, but before they leave, Atalia stopped in her tracks right by the kitchen. "Kitchen. Counter. Coffee."

A smile broke down on his face as he chuckled and kissed her cheeks. "Darlingggg, you know me so well. That’s why I love you."

Atalia rolled her eyes, her lips curling up slightly. "Yeah, yeah. Just remember that when I’m saving your ass out there."

They left their apartment and made their way to the rendezvous point. The city streets were eerily quiet, the usual hustle and bustle muted by the early hour. As they approached their target location, an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town, Jay felt almost like he hadn't done this before.
